Exiting, just about any sport can be exciting, depending on time and circumstances.
Boring... Probably golf. Playing it is fine, watching it is like watching grass grow.
The most exciting for me is rugby league, then some track and field events.
The most boring would be American football (too many stoppages), curling and sports like yachting, horse riding, archery, etc. Golf is an interesting sport. I find it boring to watch on TV, but once in the 1980s, I actually had the chance to be part of the gallery that followed Jack Nicklaus around during a tournament in Australia and that was fun.
American football and basketball are clearly the most exciting. Best all-around athletes in the world displaying their skills on every play. Most boring is easily J-league soccer. Talent level is marginal and lack of goals makes it even worse.
Most exciting -- American football. In that sport, a team actually has to WIN THE GAME to advance.
Most boring -- futbol. Thank God for ESPN. They show the 10 - 15 seconds of the good stuff in a WC soccer match; thus, saving TV viewers the pain of sitting through 90-plus minutes of seeing grown men kick a ball back and forth to each other, and watching them fall to the ground and roll around in "agony" like their legs had just been blown off by a hand grenade only to get back up a minute later and start running around again.
herefornow- U must be joking about American football players as being all-around atheletes. 350lb lardasses with guts hanging down to their knees are not atheletes. As for basketball, no thanks. They stretch out the last 5 minutes on the clock so much I could get a nap in and still see the last few moments.
Hockey, hands down, is the best, most exciting sport on the planet.
“Golf is a game whose aim is to hit a very small ball into an even smaller hole, with weapons singularly ill-designed for the purpose.” -Winston Churchill
Well, if it's a "sport", marathon running is stunningly boring and must be the lowest of the low. A good game of rugby union is unbeatable entertainment, and enough to make me stop checking out women for seconds at a time.
Most exciting: Motorcycle Speedway (long track especially) One gear, no breaks! Every race is exciting to watch.
Most Boring: Golf
Most Irritating: Soccer. 90 minutes and no score, can't believe people waste their precious time following teams for whole seasons. Soccer fans must be right up there with god-believers for the most gullible people in the world, giving all their money away.
Most potential: Soccer. Man they could make that sport so exciting if they just changed the rules. I'm surprised there has not yet been a huge break away Futsal-type league, like there has been with sevens rugby, twenty20 cricket, and A1 GP etc.
Football would be all right if it were 9 players to a team, the goals were bigger, and offside was scrapped. On rare occasions there are great football matches, the problem is that there are way too many tedious low-scoring games too. Baseball would be better if outfielders took those silly gloves off, but would still be extremely tedious to watch. No hope for golf or running marathons...
A good game of cricket, but they've taken it off British TV now. You can only watch if you pay, so that's me out.
F1 in Japan gets heavily cut for frequent commercial breaks and then shown after midnight, so that has totally ruined it for me. Shame on Fuji TV.
Marathon running can be oddly compelling. Why? Wimbledon tennis used to have me up all night.
Can't watch rugby any more, not that they offer it on J TV anyway.
A good game of soccer can be riveting, but most of this so-called World Cup has been frustrating, especially with the super-light wobbly ball and some pretty random referee decisions.
most exciting sport: anything related to pushing, punching, kicking and hurting one another “within a set of fair rule”. that include a game like american football.
most boring sport: soccer, other words football. I hate dirty game with little dirty trick and soccer is one of those full with little grab, dirty trick and pretending.
Contact sports are where it's at. Fights in ice hockey actually have a lot to do with the strategy of the game and there's no fake stuff like in footy and others wherein players fall all over themselves whimpering over fake injuries. Contact is where it's at, not like the NBA and MLB where they do anything to avoid touching each other lest they be fouled. Sports are the replacement for war and keeping it physical maintains the interest.
Most exciting American Football , Rugby, extreme sports, hockey, track & field, speed skating, rally racing, auto racing, crash & derby, X-Games, basketball, sometimes baseball,
Most boring: 1ST PLACE TIE Poker Games on tv & World Cup soccer (head coaches) are not needed during the games they should play a separate game of pizza eatting contest or beer guzzling contest. The players are subpar so so and boring they have to dye their hair to get recognition.
Slow very boring scores, fans chanting boring songs. badminton, bowling, billard,Curling, golf, horse racing, speedboat racing,Ping Pong, Figure Skating because it's the same boring twist in the air. Sumo, sudoku, Slamball, dodgeball, sport fishing, Sport hunting, NASCAR, rodeos,
Any sports involving humans chasing or hitting balls in some way or another. It'd be more interesting if it were dogs or monkeys chasing or hitting balls. But humans going back and forth after a ball? Booorrriiinggggg.
Exciting? any sport where theres plenty of action, goals, touchdowns, runs (one day cricket, 20/20 cricket), world records (sprints) and the odd fight!
Boring? Golf, lawn bowls, curling
Hockey easily the best(get bits of boxing as a bonus at times)
those that say the NFL really need to change that to the CFL!! The NFL is for wusses, fields arent as wide or as long(no silly tiny endzones in the CFL). Fair catch rule is for ferries, give`m 5yards & make them rtn the ball! And finally why on earth does the NFL need 4downs to get 10yards when 3downs are plenty(and makes for a much more exciting much FASTER game)
For boring golf(some puts are cool to watch though), baseball & this years world cup!
The best are major league baseball and NFL football. Hockey is OK. The worst sports are soccer, tennis. Sorry to the world cup fans, we just don't like soccer in America.
Most boring: Baseball and Cricket Id rather watch paint drying!
Most exciting: Tennis and Football, the beautiful game, truly a world sport, unlike baseball.
Most exciting sports to me are Soccer, Basketball and Hockey. Most boring sports to me are the lazy men sports such as Golf and Baseball. Have people ever see the size of some of the golfers and baseball pitchers?
Australian football (The Big Game: Big scores, big number of players, big ground, big crowds) is easily the most exciting game to watch and play in the world. Soccer (The small Game: small players, small ground, small crowds, small or no scores) is just a snooze fest. The soccer World Cup should be called the European, African and South American trophy as hardly anyone in China, India of SE Asia are interested or play it. Basketball is the only game that can really be called the world game because it is played everywhere.
The most exciting sport i have seen would be Jai alai.. the most boring 'sport' ever? Professional poker. Oh mai dear god.. spill a drink, fall off of the chair, pet the bottom of the waitress.. DO SOMETHING PLEASE? Golf is at least relaxing to watch.. so much soft green.. the pretty trees.. i do not really consider it a sport.
chotto: Yes SOCCER it's truly boring, watching paint dry is more exciting !!!! And the chants & lame songs is the worst. Sorry, if I bought a ticket, don't want to sing or chant !!!!
Several people have said golf is boring. I dunno... it amazes me to see these top golphers hit the ball over 200 meters and have it land within a few meters of the hole. I could hit golf balls all day and never have a ball land within 50 meters of the dang hole. I hear Kim Jong Il is the best golpher in the world, sometimes getting 2 hole in ones in one outing!
Most Boring: Baseball and American football - both just seem to go on forever.
Most Exiting: It really depends on the quality of the game rather than the sport. A good game of rugby, basketball, tennis or a closely fought motorsport race.
I would say the most exciting sport for me to watch is the NFL and NBA. As for the most boring, that would be NASCAR. It's 4 left turns, repeated ad nauseum.
@ Sarge: There is a quote from Silk Stockings that said "The people who gave us golf and called it a game are the same people who gave us bag pipes and called it music." Actually i do like watching golf and i think i might enjoy playing golf if nobody else would mind that the balls i hit will go where they do and nobody minds that the clubs i swing may do the same? But while there is certainly a genuine talent i think, to hitting the small ball into the holes.. it is just not exciting. It is like a slow walk in a big park, where the only thing keeping you from getting hit in the head by a ball is the courtesy of strangers. I wrote jai alai as the most exciting sport.. because there is actually the real possibility of being killed when playing that game - love or hate it, that IS exciting. @ diuneahma: We must use the two terms of soccer and football because there is two different sports that share the name football, depending on where in the world you are. It is not an insult to soccer to call it soccer; soccer has 2 names but football (the sport played with the funny-shaped ball and BIG BIG men wearing armor and helmets) only has one name.
Can everyone stop saying "American" football? Football is football in America. It's like saying Japanese sumo. And I think the football (as in the NFL) is the most exciting sport to watch. The most boring : rugby.
Can everyone stop saying "American" football? Football is football in America.
Sorry bicultural, but American football is football only in America, and this is Japan Today. Sumo is sumo everywhere.
If I have to specify English muffins to avoid getting cup-cakes for breakfast, you're going to have to say American football if you want your players to be all padded-up and helmeted.
Most exciting sport to watch - Doggy dancing
Most boring sport to watch - Extreme stamp-collecting
You have to call it American football when speaking to an international audience, like JT commentors. Also, to Diunehma, as you are probably non-American and probably just resent the fact that North Americans decided to apparently come up with their own name for "association football", please be advised: the term soccer comes from the word "association" and was used in European English-speaking countries to separate association football from "rugby football". So there you go, let the world know that it was the brits that came up with the word "soccer" in the first place and whom now give Americans flak for insisting on using it.
Anyway, I find American football to be the most exciting for its blend of cerebral strategy and intense gameplay. But I find soccer far more fun to actually play.
Golf is the most boring, but I also find basketball kind of a snoozefest.

Paired Diving for both questions
Girls (including footage of the post-dive shower) as the "most interesting".
Conversely, men doing the same put me off my lunch (breakfast, dinner). Therefore I nominate it as "most boring" :-)
Followed closely by beach volleyball, categories divided by gender as above...

I can't seem to find any sport that's exiting anymore...
I used to enjoy watching baseball and hockey (GO! LEAFS! GO!). Maybe it's because I don't have the time now to know the players.
Boring sports? That will be a one-sided tennis game.

Most boring - Golf. People who'd watch that crap would enjoy watching flies mate and without hesitation write a thesis of the subject.
Most exciting - X-Games events (anything that has Red Bull as a sponsor).

That's because many American sports fans have the attention span of a moth. If the score isn't 680,385 to 1,403,590, it's considered a 'dull' game.
