And, before anybody starts - Australia is part of Asia.
I have no idea myself, but most of the Australians I've met have told me it's part of Oceania.
I've flown JAL for 14 years and have always like them. They're expensive, but service has always been excellent. Food, timeliness, etc. Beats flying on any US carrier.
And, before anybody starts - Australia is part of Asia.
In your mind perhaps. Not according to tectonics it's not. JAL is boringly bland both in terms of food and service. Best service is SA but they use old Qantas planes. Korean Air has the best food, crappy wine menu though. Personally choose Oceanic carriers for friendly personalised service. Best Asian one is Singapore, might be the airport has something to do with it.
I like Thai Airways because the colors are cool, the flight attendants charming and have never had trouble. Qantas has too many male flight attendants.
Singapore Airlines and Thai....ANA at times. Never had an issue in 15 years. Ladies give me double scotches on a whim. I fly both biz and economy and they both seem to adore a passenger. On the flip side, I hear they are very harsh with weight and height. My wife was back in the Ansett (Oz airline ended in 2001) days... she still claims Americans were the kindest and dumbest (haha). I still think Sing Air is the king in service worldwide. Cant beat a Gulfstream with stippers outta Vegas.
For Asian airlines, I've only flown JAL and ANA. Both have given us great service, however JAL has gone the extra mile by running a forgotten jacket quite a distance to get it to me in Kansai, before our connection departed.
Also, providing Okinawan candies and Okinawan music while taxiing for departure at Naha is a very nice touch.
We like both Airlines, and believe all of the American carriers should have JAL and ANA train their cabin attendants. American carriers are certainly at the bottom of the quality list from out experience.
Malaysia airlines is surprisingly good. I would say Singapore Airlines, but Malaysia has almost as good service for less price. And actually Air New Zealand is pretty good. They were not so much 10 years ago but they've really gotten their act together so much that I would say they're the best Australasian/Oceania Airline, way over Qantas.
Cathay Pacific is okay, didn't like Korean Airlines so much. But in general Asian/Oceania airlines are the best, I flew once on American Airlines and it was horrible.
If there was some kind of crash and I had to have someone pry me out from under a collapsed seat or some such thing, I'd rather have a few male flight attendants on hand. Flight attendants should be useful, not waifish models who can't lift a carry-on bag to help me get it in the bin.
My best experience was with Singapore Airlines. Malaysia was terrible. Continental is okay. I wouldn't use any other American airline. Continental has always been decent, but everything else has been terrible. The Japanese airlines are too expensive for me to even consider.
China Airlines because they offer affordable tickets from Okinawa to Europe and don't require one to fly to mainland Japan first -often having to stay overnight at hellholes like Narita- when traveling to international destinations from Okinawa.
My experience of their service, food and timeliness is good.
Favorite in terms of what? Pricewise you cant beat Air China or China Southern Airlines. However, they arent the best in terms of passenger service. Malaysia Airlines had friendly CAs, but for some reason the seats were really uncomfortable. Favorite, Id go with either Singapore Airlines- good service, beautiful CAs (though the same could be said for many airlines), or Asiana Airlines- voted best airline in 2009.
One things clear. Compared to most Asian airlines European, North American airlines suck. For the latter two its as if the CAs regard themselves as waiters/ waitresses. The concept of providing hospitable passenger service just doesnt seem to be a part of their policy.
Singapore Airlines is the best airline in the world, without question. A close runner-up is Thai International. None of the European or American airlines come even close.
So far, I've flown almost all the Asian airlines except for Malaysia air. I think Cebu Pacific (which is a budget airline) tops them all in terms of passenger assistance and smoothness while on air. Second is Thai airways and Asiana, third is JAL and the worst of them all is Philippine Airlines.
Singapore, definitely Singapore. Philippines isn't bad, I've always had good service on the airline. I guess one problem is you have to fly through that dump of an airport, Manila.
SQ, NH, CX are all excellent. It's clean planes, excellent service and good looking people on those airlines that make me want to throw up every time that I have to settle flying on an US carrier on a trans-pacific flight...
Singapore hands down! Best business class in the industry, great food and of course beautiful flight attendants. The A380 B/C is amazing!! SAS also has a good business class more so for the food and wine than the seats as it seems to last 2-3 hours. Thai is not bad although some of their planes interiors are in need of a serious upgrade. China Airlines?? Check their safety record, not so good!
How come nobody complains that waiters and not waitresses serve customers in restaurants? I don't care about the attendants' age, gender, face or body. When an accident happens, as monkey says, and heavy things likes doors and wreckage need to be moved, a talkative waif ain't gonna be of much use. I bet half the people who complain about the 'look' of the attendants are baldie fat oldies themselves. Sometimes, it's not the staff who put me off, but the passengers.
As for my favourites, I like Cathay. Good service and good food. I once had to be put onto a CX flight in the Middle East as I think my Gulf air flight was full. I asked for vegetarian food just before boarding and there was absolutely no problems. Compare with Thai - I confirmed my special meal THREE times, as still they had no record of it at check-in. Never again.
The Chinese airlines (be they mainland or Taiwan are ok. Those who complain should really have travelled with them 20 years ago - they have improved A LOT!). I travel with ANA a lot (but I always use my Virgin mileage card as there's no expiry date if I use it once every 2 years, unlike ANA). Biggest complaint about ANA - the seats are too small and they've stopped giving any sort of freebie snacks). But service is always good. I don't remember any bad service from JAL but they're just a bit too pricey sometimes.
All Asian Airlines are great - after all, the stewardesses on them are Asian girls. Enough said! All the male posters on here agree with me, I am certain! I actually like Cathay, their prices are always reasonable and you just can't beat a stopover in HK. I tend to avoid ANA and JAL though - too expensive for 2 run-of-the-mill airlines.
I love both JAL and ANA. Great service and food. I flew Cathay Pacific once from Hong Kong to LA and was pretty excited about it, but the service overall was pretty bad. I was in the first row behind the separating wall and the attendants would congregate in the area behind it and talk...loudly. When one of them got into range I called out "excuse me" and she actually finished the rest of her sentence and let her partner respond before actually turning to me to see what I needed. Overall the staff made the passengers feel more like an inconvenience to them.
You experience will vary depending on class of service. Once you get to Business or First class the differences are more about how good the scotch or wine is and less about inattentive crew.

I think ANA is definitely one of the best in Asia. Flight attendants are very courteous and elegant and the aircraft are all very new and modern.

That's what happens when you make it illegal to discriminate by gender. Enjoy the "equality".
