So many current world leaders are either colorless, fanatical or incompetent. Australian PM Kevin Rudd would get my vote, though. He seems to be keeping his promises so far. I only hope he isn't forced to compromise.
I think the Prime Minister of Japan! No matter what trouble confronts the goverment, it always seems ready to help the citizens first. But I'm looking at this from a far. I could be completely wrong.
'Respect' is a pretty heavy word to throw around when the subject is politicians.
When you think about it, any politician needs to have what it takes to get the Top Job.
And what it takes tends to be not very nice.
So, after a long hard brain-wrack .... sorry, none of them. Expectation, grudging admiration, indifference, distaste, yes: respect, no.
It's impossible to have respect for any politician. They do the "job" for their own power trip and the cash. They don't give a **** about the common man/woman apart from the pretence just before election day.
maybe better to ask "which world leader do you disrespect the least??" As Blue Tiger mentioned above frog 1 Sarkosky isn't afraid to say what he thinks it seems. And that lady on his arms is rather tasty....
Some people say the people who have the power to print money is said to be the most powerful people on this planet.
There are people much more powerful than Bush, Rudd or other elected leaders. The ignorant think as long as we elect leaders with no real power that we are free. Words like freedom is an illusion because it is within the frame work of what they allow us.
For instance the Bilderbergers which consits of European Royals. Business Leaders, Bankers. Bilderberg make it possible through their iron grip control of the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, and the World Trade Organization to pretty much do whatever they want.
Why is it that people who are leaders of the World Bank, WTO, the Federal Reserve, the various Royalities of Europe, multi nationals such as "ROyal" Shell get together and there is hardly any media coverage in the main stream media? It is because they own the media.
Powerful families have thorughout centuries and decades made sure to maintain their hegemony and not give away power. For instance did you know that Geroge W Bush is directly related with the Queen Of England? They are family. DId you also know that US citizens still pay tax to the English Queen? US still pay taxes to UK through the IRS. International Revenue System.
Bush SR was knighted by the Queen Of England after the 1st Gulf War. Being knighted means that you accept that you serve the Queen. You thought US won the war of independence but aparently US still pay taxes to the Queen, and their president is serving the Queen.
Just for the record. I do not respect the Queen. I find people who look at her as some magestic figure to be sheep minded. To those who think she holds no power equally as ignorant. They are one of the richest families on this planet and above the law and they get tax money from countries like Canada, USA, Australia.
I do not respect any world leader who wants to make sure not to give away their power and greed and make sure people remain ignorant.
As for leaders I respect? Current? I will have to think more about that one.
dont respect anyone who deems it their job or right to tell you how to live because that's what the last several generations of their family did. politicians? self serving, lying..oooh I could say so many bad words that would get this message deleted. hate them all, HATE them
Merkel of Germany for telling the PRC to step off when she met with the Dalai Lama. Every other world leader more or less ingnored PRC criticism but Merkel came out and said something along the lines of China not being in a position to dictate which state guests she recieves.
Wow, talk about slim pickings! Which current world leader do I respect the most? How about whoever leads the nation somewhere in the Marshall Islands? Never read anything about them in the news so something must be going on right over there.
Fidel Castro...he retired but he is still a hero of many:) I love him because he is the revolutionary, the man who opposed the number one enemy of the world peace - the USA!
For those who said G W Bush, thanks for the good laugh I just had. A person responsible for the deaths of so many tens of thousands of innocent people (many multiples of those murdered by Al Qaeda) deserves only the deepest contempt, and a well-deserved place in the dustbin of history.
As for my answer - probably the Dalai Lama, the true spiritual leader of Tibet.
I still stand fast with the King and Queen of Sealand. A family of 6 fought 2 wars (against England and Germany) and still stick it to the man by remaining free and independant.
How can you respect a man solely by the things you hear about them from the TV and Media? I only respect people I know. You cant get to know somebody through the tv and media. Somebody which the TV portrays as nice and benevolent could be molesting little boys in his spare time. You just never know.
I think the question would be better off being: "Which of the world leaders do the media portray as being the coolest?"
Love him or hate him (he doesn't even crack my top ten list of greatest US presidents - but I like what he evokes in so many here...) he is a two-term president of the most powerful nation in history.
And since WW2 the only Democrat to get elected twice did so during the little Holiday From History that we all took in that period between the time Reagan brought down the Berlin Wall and jihad hit America on 9-11.

President Sarkozy of France, for one, because he's daring to challenge Red China on her human rights thing with the Tibetans.
If only the rest ofthe world would have a leader like him who pushes the Euro Signs away from his eyes and sees the forest for the trees....

Robert Mugabe, because he said he couldn't sleep if he cheated and I think it is very impressive to go without sleep for 28 years.

President Bush, he has not wavered in the face of international outcry. He is not perfect, but he is a worldsaver.

I second williamsmith. Mugabe not sleeping for 28 years is indeed impressive.
