I don't know the correct name but it was a shooting event with air-rifles I believe. I see the games as something physical. Aiming and shooting is not. Things like archery I 100% support. Air rifles? Not in the least.
I'd like to see the walking race, shooting, equestrian, rhythmic gymnastics, synchronized swimming, yachting and shot put dropped. Soccer should be dropped too, unless there is no age restriction (I know, FIFA objects because that would compete with the World Cup).
Not so much events but I want the Olympics to go back to the way they were in my Youth.
In short NO Professionals, big endorsement, etc they used to be a proofing ground for an amateur to jump to Pro-status.
We see the professionals perform all year round in how many events. Very few Amateurs now got a chance to win a medal.
One reason why I prefer the Paralympics all amateurs and some could nearly as well as the guys in the Olympics.
Out:
Anything that wasn't in Ancient Greece (no soccer, no hockey, synchronised swimming, etc...)
Clothing (the real Olympics were conducted naked!)
In:
Pankration (a mixture of boxing and wrestling!)
Chariot racing!! Gotta get some Ben Hur on!!!
Language requirement (you need to speak Greek to participate in the Olympics... to make it fair on everyone let's make it ancient Greek, not modern Greek... now only athletes with brains AND brawn can compete)
Rugby 7's in for next olympics yeh, most of the swimming is pointless I mean who in their right would swim butterfly or half of that other retarded stuff if it wasnt an olympic sport, breast stroke only should be done.
Syncro swimming is a waste of time, as is BMX that is absolute rubbish, next they will want skate boarding in.
Pro sports like soccer, golf, basketball, tennis etc should be no where near the games in my opinion.
Yes, the walking sport is not so interesting, but those "walkers" have my respect. They walk a kilometer in 4 minutes. That's a 15 kilometer per hour pace. The top speed of the treadmill at my gym is 16 km / hr.
Out. Horse stuff (although maybe horse racing could be introduced to up the gambling interest). THe artistic gym stuff with ribbons and such (more like ballroom dancing than a sport). Synchro swimming (though some of the contestants can be eye candy).
In. Darts. Snooker. Pool. Speed drinking and eating. bare knuckle fighting.
I think the Olynpics should be about strength and endurance and skill as much as possible.
Out: All team sports. All ball sports.
These are games, not pure displays of athleticism. Also, teams interacting with other teams. Lowly's Olympics is the individual athlete vs the individual athlete/ and/or vs himself. Not group dynamics. To me a different thing. Also there are too many of these different kinds of games. And finally, they all have their own well-watched, very popular world events- baseball world series, soccer world cup, rugby also, etc etc.
Out: All "artistic" sports.
The hula hoops, synchro swimming, figure skating. Real "art" can't be judged, and while can and/or "should" include athleticism, depending on the statement/ expression the artist wishes to make at any time, may not be necessary to that particular piece. Thus arbitrary judging by a judge who somebody decides knows better than me which art is best, and categories which make allowances for required athleticism, obviously compromise the art aspect. So then what is it? Somebody's random program of moving fake-artistically to ween points off a self-important career judge. Just not interesting. Irrelevant. Fake! Counter productive to both sports and art, as well as my time!
Out: Some fighting sports.
I don't mind these being in the olympics, but do we need wrestling and judo? Do we need boxing and karate and tae kwon do? And all these kung fu and tai chi variations displayed at Beijing olympics? Will BJJ become a category? These are all political considerations for "national pride" fighting sports. Just have one striking and one grappling sport and leave it at that. Or just one MMA sport like pride or the Octagon. (A further prob with having each natnl fighting sport represented is that inevitably the olympic committee makes/ changes rules, and as a world body and world competition that ppl are aiming for, these rule changes end up having an undo effect on the "origins" of the sport/ martial art. Esp., judo, tae kwon do etc)
Out: some aiming sports.
Again do we need this many kinds? As with fighting sports above, shoot an arrow, shoot a gun. Is that enough? 2? How far can you shoot with this implement. On the fence re modern bows vs some traditional bow. The problem is weapons have always been modified since forever, to make a better bow. Which one do we choose to be "the bow".
In:
Some interesting traditional st events. sb said above about wife carrying, presumably as a joke. However I am interested in some of the strong-man type traditional events they have at those competitions. Lifting odd sized misshapen rocks. (As opposed to a bar w/ handles). Carry one of those rocks real far in your hands. Pull some weight w/ or w/o wheels strapped to your waist.
In summary,
Lowly's Olympics has pure athletics as its ideal. Strength, speed, endurance, measuring these things in a few different ways in an easy-to-understand way for any average person. Throwing things and shooting things and combat are an adjunct to this that I agree with, in not too-varied an amount of events.
As for age, and pro vs not,
a real problem, the modern world is not a collection of farming city-states like it was in Greece when they could just get a few young solders and a few young farmers together and just say "run". Everyone's training and if they don't get money from somewhere, will not be able to be competitive. Taking out team sports will address the money probs to some limited extent. Let's Go LOWLY'S OLYMPICS!

BMX- boring, and not a sport in my book. Just people showing off on their bikes. Dull.
Dressage- a snoozefest. The dullest thing at the games.
Judo- boring.
Table Tennis- boring.
Shooting- not a sport in my book.
Handball- boring.
In
Karate- more interesting than Judo
Rugby 7's- more fun to watch than soccer

Synchro swimming and diving need to take a hike.
Soccer can disappear as well, along with rhythmic gymnastics.
Archery needs to lose all the hi-tech and go back to being just a bow. The same can be said for the air guns.
Additions... how about in-line speed skating?

Oh my God! I forgot about the walking race! That is probably the worst one of them all. Synchronised swimming too. It's not a sport!!
In-line hockey, yeah, speed skating, nah...

I'd like to see the following introduced:
Darts
Pac Man
Master Chef.
And chuck out:
Anything that involves horses (shouldn't they get the medal)
Synchronised swimming (an art maybe, but not a sport).
Hockey (just a game that irritates me for no known reason).

The easiest stroke to do???
Synchro, while boring in my opinion, is freaken hard. They get respect in my books!
And ditto with the walking - how the hell do you ever get involved in such a crap sport in the first place??

I would like to see the event that appeared on Monty Python years ago.
Global Hide and Seek.
I think the Python Olympic record was 17 and a half years.

Get rid of that boring soccer, sync swimming, baseball, walking, and gymnastics
Bring in dwarf tossing as a track and field event, beer pong, and paintball.

Out: Any event that is not objectively measured (gymnastics, figure skating).
Out: Any event that relies heavily on equipment (bobsled, sailing, cycling).
Out: Obscure events that have no basis in natural physical endeavors (curling, water polo).
Out: Endless variations on the same event. Backstroke, sidestroke, butterfly...? It should be one event: Here's a pool. Fastest person wins. Go.
Out: Clothes, just like the Greeks had it.
Who's with me?
