Advertisers (sorry to those of my friends in the advertising industry) Real Estate agents Used Car Sale people Shonky Mechanics Lawyers (creative use of 'the truth')

Nevertheless, this is a broad brush - there are exceptions in EVERY field. However, when bending the truth is in the interest of pushing your product and service, then it could be applied to any profession.

And from the nature of the question - excluding politicians - is the implication that all politicians are liars, so there's need for them to be discussed?

Carriage returns mean nothing in this system - sigh. Mentally insert commas between items above, but if you can't: Advertisers (sorry to those of my friends in the advertising industry), Real Estate agents, Used Car Sales people, Shonky Mechanics, and Lawyers (creative use of 'the truth').

    You are kidding, right?

Stock brokers. I will extend that to anyone SELLING financial instruments. Now the clerks who will prepare what you ask for are OK, but anyone telling you what you need is lying. Write it down.

Two days ago, a guy from a very well-known brokerage house called and told me I should buy shares of a new issue of XXX bank. I laughed at him and asked him if he knew what DILUTION means. After he did some fast talking, I asked him if he knew what EPS and ROA stand for. More fast talking. Then I asked him what a CUSTOMER is. Then I told him: a CUSTOMER is XXX bank that gives a brokerage firm 300 million dollars to flog its stock. An idiot is the person the brokerage firm calls to buy that stock.

I ain't no idiot, so I told him he had the wrong number. True story. The guy wanted me to buy some crummy stock that his brokerage firm was unloading for a bank client it was underwriting for.

I have had life insurance salesmen lie to my face, TWICE! Just flat out lie.

Just another two cents. I have never had a job where I had to lie. I have never knowingly lied to a customer, even to be polite. I know that a lot of people say "everyone does it," but it is not true. Three companies (leasing, two retail) I worked for told me to do it, and I found other ways to get the job done instead. I have never lied to a subordinate at work. That is something I am very proud of.

I might have lied to a boss a long time ago about a sick day or something. I think that happened once or twice.

There are probably professions where liars can be very successful. I still would not do them to save my life. I am such a wimp.

Yeah, I would have to say that English conversation teachers are right up there. Pretty hard to be interesting all day long unless you exaggerate and throw in some imaginative semi-facts as well.

Excluding politicians? That is rather pointed. An automatic number one then?

Next on the list would probably be a rather large group of rightie posters and bloggers.

    Then journalists.

A little further down the list, the same as two, but on the left.

I'd say professional athletes: Marion Jones, Tiger Woods, Rafael Palmeiro, Mark MacGwire, Kobe Bryant, and many others immediately come to mind....
