Harry Bosch (bought one and was hooked, now have them all :-D),Detective Goren, Inspector Frost.

The Scarpetta series started out well enough, but is too much soap opera now for my taste. It has devolved practically into chick lit ( I think I undertand LostinNagoya's comment, in other words).

I think Poirot was pretty kick-arse in both book and TV form. And Ustinov was also very convincing in a Poirot movie.

Eddie Shoestring,Bergerac,Morse,Joan Hickson(Miss Marple)Brett/Basil Rathbone(Serlock Holmes) although Rupert Everett has impressed in the role also,Poirot is an annoying little "french" detective whoever portrays him.
