Sort of matches the number of the obese, pork fat back eating people. They bring it on themselves.

Some people are naive and can sometimes make fun of another person's health especially if they are ignorant and not educated in that field. One should always be more sensitive and not blame people for their health condition. It is not their fault in all situations. In the case of diabetes the risk factor for their health condition can be passed down through the gene and their is the possibility that the next generation will have it although it is not necessarily considered genetic. However a family history of diabetes is one risk factor. Another would be on the environmental factors. Since we have no control over the aging process as we get older we have an increased risk of getting diabetes. Hence we should always be grateful for our health daily and that will help you to live a rich, meaningful and abundant life.

Type 1 through the chromosomes.
Type 2 in most cases is brought on by Obesity. Obesity in most cases is not chromosomes. It is bonbons and potato chips massed consumed along with other junk.
Eat healthy.

Isnt it also genetically inheritable?

Papi-san, Type 2 is. My lover has had it since 16, his sister since 17. Both shoot insulin, and very strict with diet etc. There mom has it too, but not as bad, and controlled with medicine.
I know of others that have it too. Some older Japanese, and caused by weight.
Read up on it and you will see that obesity is a major concern not only due to diabetes, but lots of other health problems, and physical ones too.
There is a guy with a law suit against white castle now, because he is so fat, he cannot fit in their booths. He is perfect for Type 2 to hit him hard, and then he won't be chowing down the fries, burgers and milkshakes any more.
They shoot the insulin up to three times a day, and check sugar levels all the time. If you keep up with the type 1, you will not lose your kidneys, go blind, or need amputations.
Lose weight and eat healthy.

Type 1 I feel for them, Type 2 much less so.
Reality is people are born, eventually we die. And the worldwide population continues to increase at a staggering rate, mother nature has to try to balance these things, I expect more & nastier illnesses, diseases in the future.
But yes eating properly is a great way to beat the odds!
Note to self, eat more veggies, cut down on the beer, well at least I try

I think the food companies bear much of the blame, whacking corn syrup in EVERYTHING for starters. The world has a glut of sugar and salt and it gets put in everything.I did the low GI diet once and was surprised at the products you wouldn't expect to find sugar in..it comes in many forms too..caramel in Soy Sauce for example.

In the US especially, food portions have been increasing for 20 years or more. The average muffin is more than double the size a muffin was in the 70s. Food packages themselves are larger, there's now a 52-ounce bag of M&Ms! Paying a few more cents to double the size of your meal is another way in which people have become accustomed to eating more and more food at a sitting.
Only about 3% of obese people have a thyroid or other hormonal or glandular problem that makes them gain weight, the rest are overeating, or eating too much junk.
Darren, do you think that people can get too fat by the effects of corn syrup even if they don't overeat(the corn syrup affecting metabolism) , or do you think it's a cumulative effect, all the corn syrup they take in from various sources adding up to too many calories?
There's a doctor in Kakogawa who has taken his diabetes patients off carbohydrates and many can quit insulin. They eat low-carb fusuma bread instead of bread and rice. High-GI fruits and veggies are also restricted. He has been very successful in treating diabetes with a low-carb diet. Americans eat huge amounts of potatoes, the Japanese eat huge amounts of rice. Americans, in addition, eat a lot of sweet candy and ice cream. That obesity is on the rise shouldn't be a surprise.

When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use; when diet is correct, medicine is of no need.

I agree with JapanGal. It's awful that people develop diabetes at all. One of my best friends in the world has type 1, as does one of my ex-boyfriends.
But those that develop diabetes through a bad diet don't get my sympathy. Instead, they get my encouragement to develop healthy eating habits. I hope they do! It's hard when you're used to junk food, but I did it (and lost 30 kgs!), and I think that others can as well!
