Tanita Corp has developed a device that enables to measure a fat combustion level just by blowing on it.

The device can measure an acetone concentration, which indicates a fat combustion level, as long as it is about 0.1ppm or higher. It is expected to be used for diet programs at fitness clubs, etc.

"We want to commercialize it at as early a date as possible," a Tanita spokesman said.

There has already been a device that measures a fat combustion level based on the acetone concentration in exhaled air. But the device developed by Tanita measures a fat combustion level by combining multiple sensors, features a small size and can measure a lower concentration of acetone.

"We are considering what kinds of judgments should be made and how the results should be expressed," the spokesman said.

Tanita introduced an application software that displays a measured acetone concentration and fat combustion level on a tablet computer and proposes recipes based on the measurement results.
