To be more relevant to someone with the identified genetic mutations for breast cancer, the authors of the study would have had to identify how many of the subjects involved had the genetic mutation discussed. If a significant number of study subjects had the mutation, but did not benefit from a double mastectomy over a ten year period, then that would be an important, if counter-intuitive, finding.
