So men with high bad cholesterol levels were divided into two groups, and the group given statin drugs for 5 years had a 27% lower rate of heart disease after 20 years, and a 13% lower risk of dying? I would like to know how both these groups compare to people diagnosed with high bad LDL who changed their diets to lower the bad LDL, and maintained these better eating habits for 20 years. It's possible such dietary changes could cause a much greater reduction of heart disease than taking "preventive" statin drugs, but it wouldn't be profitable for drug companies to discover that, so such research never happens.

To put it simply good research has established hundreds of side affects caused by this controversial drug. So instead of trying to rely on some miracle drug to solve your medical problem, it might be wise and better to focus on the things that take effort and is positive like stop smoking, spend more time outside the sun without sunscreen, and reduce the effect of stress thought relaxation exercises. Achieving these goals is much more rewarding and beneficial than popping a pill and is the true secret to a long and healthy life.
