I thought that it was already pretty common knowledge that women should not drink at all during pregnency. Hopefully this will help convert the last few out there that still think its ok...however, I doubt it.

The results showed that four genetic variants in alcohol-metabolising genes among the 4,167 children were strongly related to lower IQ at age eight. The child’s IQ was on average almost two points lower per genetic variation they had.

... in other words, this is genetic, and the study doesn't ACTUALLY prove cause and effect. Allow me to demonstrate the error simply. Let's assume for a moment that these genetic variants are heritable, and as such they inherit there genetic variants from their parents, and since they're connected to intelligence these kids show a lower IQ. Whether the mother drank or not is irrelevant.

This study did not examine this hypothesis. They did not examine whether other children with these four naturally occurring genetic variants exhibited similar lower IQs.

Fortunately other research has examined this, and children with this genes tend to have slightly lower IQs.

There is no link between alcohol consumption and genetic modifiction. That's just RIDICULOUS!

This is like so old school news! Wasn't it known in the 1950's or 60's? Same with smoking!
