The part where they wrote ..'Assuming the association is causal..' is very important. My gut feeling is that it is causal, but one has to consider that those who participate in such exercise are less depressed than others and end up choosing a behavior that is indeed good for them. Everyone know the importance of the word 'assume'.

A 16% reduction is pretty small. I bet in most cases, a pair of loving arms around you the same number of times a week, would give much better results. Not finding those arms is the cause of depression.

Exercise leads to improvements in depression that rivals or surpasses those from antidepressant drugs. In other words there is a strong correlation between improved mood and aerobic capacity. So the mind-body connection is very real, and that maintaining good physical health can significantly lower your risk of suffering from depressive symptoms and even developing depression in the first place. Therefore regular intense exercise is a must for most people suffering from depression, and unlike the other common treatments, antidepressants, will not cause any negative side effects.

Whenever I feel down and out, I just take a nice long walk outside and find things to be grateful for. It never fails to cheer me up. I think doctors should prescribe "a brisk walk" as a kind of medicine.

Exercise is a MUST for all health wellness.

The study shows that the exercise keeps cancer at bay. I walk at least 30 minutes/day everyday of week regardless of weather. It keeps my heart pumping and boosting immunity. I need to bring down my glucose that is too high.
