An outdoor festival rig in the UK in the 1970s had a PA of around 7,000 Watts, driving relatively inefficient speakers with the quality of sound deteriorating as you moved away from the stage. A modern indoor concert rig, with the latest high efficiency line array speakers can utilise 40,000 or more Watts, and provide uniform sound levels at great distances from the stage, but very high levels close to the speakers. Ear plugs or ear defenders are a good solution to prevent hearing loss.

I have bad audio discriminating problems. Really makes it hard to learn languages, hearing conversations at parties, and the internet is the only way I can find out what the words to songs are. :-(

I am careful with my hearing.
