Nothing hip about a knee replacement especially if they are tied to risk of heart attack as the headline suggests...

When I return to the U.S. to visit friends & relatives, I find more and more of them with hip or knee replacements. And I hear stories about their problems with their robo joints that turn me away from ever having any replacements if I should ever need them somewhere down the road.
I have one Japanese friend who has refused hip replacement surgery on his bad hip for years and years ... and he turned 90 this year with his original hip bones still in place, although they are quite worn out. Guess he has learned to live with the pain. But he says never, never will he get a hip replacement ...
As for the heart attack problem, that means that there is something new to watch out for when getting a joint replaced.

My mother in Florida, now 85-years, had both hips and both knees replaced and she's happy to now have a life without pain. Her heart is good too in many ways.
Another friend had a hip problem all her life and walked with a stick until she had the hip replaced, and now no walking stick.

You have problems with total knees and hips if you don't follow your rehab program, and if you don't lose weight like you were told to. Those are the two top causes of failed replacements, but overweight causes problems more often. If you destroyed your knees because you're obese, how do you expect the replacements to last any better?
