Loss of the Y chromosome in blood cells would seem to indicate a previous change in the bone marrow, from whence red and white blood cells are made. The thymus, liver, and spleen might also be involved. The article is interesting, but just scratches the surface of the subject. Besides smoking, is heavy drinking indicated as a cause of the condition?
