And then we can put all the kids on drugs for the rest of their lives and the drug companies and poiticians can get richer. Too many processed foods, soda pops, GM foods, and the extensive use of corn syrup.

Well that's the USA but what is scary is all the awful trends from there end up spread over the planet sooner or later. I agree Vic, they seem more interesting in making money than anything else.
At age 2 ? In my family, every baby has its weight/height chart from birth. Data collected once a week till one, once a month while growing up, 4 times a year when adult. Don't tell me they waited till 2011 to get the idea.
That's really sad for the kids. That a 9 yr kid is overweight is already a huge failure from caregivers and from doctors monitoring the family. Shouldn't there be some reaction to address the issue as soon as it is noticeable and make in sort that 2 yrs later he/she is back at a healthy weight ?
What's the point of screening and then do nothing ? That would be a bit paternalistic... but given the situation, I think that in the US the weight monitoring should become part of the school curriculum and for any child out of the normal (without particular condition), parents/caregivers should be required to take classes, go to workshops to learn basics of healthy lifestyle and even give account of their effort, and if not, lose custody. It's easy to lose your driver license, but they let you wreck the kids' health.
That one kills me ! Shouldn't they start the advice even earlier than age 9 months before birth ? They count on primary school kids to make adult stop the ciggie ?

They can test them but there is no any known, effective, harmless cure for high cholesterol.
I personally never heard any trusted report on what exactly causes high bad cholesterol. I suspect it has something to do with digestion, general body chemistry, breathing, acid and alkali balance in the body. I don't know.
Doctors in most cases just badger the human body. Doctors only can cure what would heal by themselves.

A truly sad testament on a sick society.

So wouldn't it be easier, cheaper and more effective to tackle the obesity problem? Start by improving the diet.

cleo, Right on! It amazes me that these 'professionals' can't see the obvious.

@cleo
That is no lucrative business like testing everybody and then doing nothing. Your healthy proposal means only cost for them. Everything is business.

Breaking news: Cholesterol DOES NOT cause heart disease..typical govt myth and propaganda. I would be more worried about these kids' insulin level. Hyperinsulinemia is the basis for most of these modern diesease.

I see some chubbies here in Japan, but nothing like in America. Will they do that testing here?

It would be easier to stop calling pizza a vegetable for starters... a healthy diet can avoid all this! The drug companies are behind this for sure...

Too much junk food, too much crap drinks like coca cola, pepsi and too much TV and NO exercise will kill you sooner or later.
