The war on drugs is proof that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. The enforcers were put there to try and help people from harming themselves, and now the enforcers have taken over for their own benefit, and we cannot get rid of them despite knowing all the damage they do is worse than if the enforcers never existed.

I don't agree with Opinionhated in that I don't think that the war on drugs ever had "good intentions". Controlling what people do with their lives and bodies is not good intentions. It's just oppression of the individual by the state. It is misuse of the control of power.

Grownups don't need to be protected from themselves; we reserve that for minors.

Oh, I understand you. But I think its a matter of being wrong and misguided, just as so many good intentions are. I do believe it got started at least in part because some people really wanted to help. Its a shame that such grand sentiments were wasted on idiots who brought us the war on drugs I think.

Lets not forget that the war on drugs has made some people rich and powerful. No doubt that was also the very goal of some.

It isn't good intention at all. The prisons are privatized. The more arrests for petty drug deals and the using of drugs is more cash in the pocket. Pfft...self-harm...look towards obese people (but that's ok right). Money in the pockets of evil corporations. Welcome to America where profit is profit regardless of individual cost. We are all numbers.

This report doesn't seem to state HOW the war on drugs is fuelling HIV increases. How can getting rid of drugs INCREASE the use of drugs by junkies?
