Chancellor's secret sex room revealed in court

Chancellor's secret sex room revealed in court Photo from Tokyo University and Graduate School of Social Welfare.

Tsuneo Nakajima, 60, the former chancellor of Tokyo University and Graduate School of Social Welfare, was arrested for molesting two female staff in his office in January. He was actually arrested 11 years ago over a similar allegation. At that time, he reached an out-of-court settlement with the victim. But in the latest case, he has been brought to trial where his perverted tendencies are being revealed in court.

On March 18, the opening day of the trial at the Tokyo district court, prosecutors accused Nakajima of forcibly kissing the victims and revealed the existence of a secret room inside the chancellor’s office.

One police source says he was amazed to find such “facilities.” He said that, according to university staff, “everybody was forbidden to enter the room. It was absolutely off limits.  It is actually a very simple room with a bed, couch and shower. But various types of sex toys, condoms as well as energy drinks were there, so it looked like a love hotel room.”

According to the prosecutor, in February 2007, Nakajima ordered one victim to come to his office, telling her he needed to discuss business matters. Drinking alcohol, he told her in English, “You must be lonely” and kissed her and tried to lift up her skirt. In May of 2005, he took the other victim, who is married, to the secret room, saying, “I’ll take care of you. It’s convenient for us that we both are already married.” When the two victims quit the college, Nakajima offered them an additional one million yen not to file a complaint with police.

One college insider says, “Nakajima has been a dictator since he founded the college. He would often direct his anger at male staff and shame female staff.” (Translated by Taro Fujimoto)

Good to see he prepared condoms. At least he's a safe sex perv.

From the looks of the photo, he's into cosplay.

Zorro -- Respecfully, having a room with "sex toys" adjacent to someone's business office is "perverted". And goes way past mere sexual harrassment or conflict of interest. Otherwise, he would not have had to hide it from everyone.

Is this common among the Japanese executive class? That guy Nozumu Saruhashi who ran Nova english conversation school had a secret luxurious room in which to allegedly seduce staff/students/teachers.

Sounds like we need a couple of reforms: 1. surprise room checks for top executives; 2. a way for vicitims to nail sexual predators - such as wearing a "wire".

What is the current use of that room?

Ah yes, what is the current use of that room?

Nurse Oppai: You are going to be a professor in the School of Social Welfare, Dr. Kinchin-botchan?! That's great! How did you ever get that post?

Dr. Kinchin-botchan: Aw, getting a professorship at Todai is easy if you know how. The best thing is that my office comes with a secret room. Heh, heh! And I get to wear a cool robe and hat while I'm in there doing you know what! Chortle, chortle.

Nurse Oppai: I hope you are not going to indulge in your deviant sexual behavior in that spectacular institution of higher learning.

Dr. Kinchin-botchan: Hey, I want to fit in, don't I?

Typical older Japanese management style at play here, would we expect anything different from a university at the heart of the 'old establishment'?

    Probably not...

The outward appearance of respectability and normality covering the true perverted self. How many others are in these type of positions of power I wonder?? How many other NO.1s have sex rooms where the ladies are forced to submit on pain of losing the job?? Just terrible.

Maybe the tables will be turned when he is inside. Justice.

Just checked out the university's website and had a good laugh. For those you can read Japanese, take a look at their motto across the main photo. http://www.tokyo-fukushi.ac.jp/index_index.html

Seems fitting that he would shoot his public roster photo in his "Earl of Burgundy-esque" graduation ceremony attire.

Let's just hope none of the students was named Anne Boleyn.

It is history in the making for a Japanese university but indeed sounds usual for me. It's sarcasm as what typifies Japan. What you say is different from the other way around.

I thought this was the way all Japanese guys picked up women...

This happens at just about every company in Japan...

    It's the "Japanese" way...

    Zorro,

Sexual harrassment? Seems like it, but what isnt?

What a fascinating question! Here's a simple answer. Many things are not sexual harrassment. NOT forcibly kissing a woman and trying to lift up her skirt is one example.

I apologize if my words have caved in your little world. I somehow doubt they have, though.

    Zorro,

Actually, I think sexual harassment has the very limited definition that its words imply, and my reading of the situation is the same as yours; this guy allegedly harassed those women sexually.

As for perversion, I'm not sure you could argue that sex toys are perfectly natural, as they intended for use when "natural" (artificially unenhanced) sex just doesn't quite float one's canoe. But is that that twisted and wrong? Depends on your philosophy or religion, I suppose. In other words, I see your point, but you'd also have to agree that other people could argue that for them, their possession and use is perverted.

Incidentally, I was aware that sexual harassment wasn't mentioned in the article. But you won't find perversion in there either. That came from greenteaonsens and jerseyboy. You brought the words sexual harassment to the debate, and then asked what wasn't sexual harassment. I answered what you intended to be a rhetorical question. Anyhow, I've been guilty of speaking (and posting!)before I think things through carefully too, so let's leave it there, shall we?

    Zorro,

Damn. I missed that, sorry. Excuse me while I wipe the "think carefully about posting" comment I made before off my face. Don't you just love the high standards of journalism these days. I'm beginning to realise that JT is little better than a tabloid in many respects. What a shame.

I could be wrong, but my opinion of sex toys in general is that they are for the purpose of pleasing the female and are merely a tool to keeping her happy. In other words, its probably not HIS perversion, but merely a means to an end; please her and she will come back.

That's a good point. However, the allegations against him could definitely be called sexual harassment. Whether or not he is actually guilty of them is, of course, for the court to decide.

Heh. One person's "perverted tendencies" are another person's harmless fetish.
