would be a waste of time unless something is done about the horrendous light pollution in skies around inhabited areas or drive several hours to find a place where there arent street lights pointing up into space.

in Osaka take a train for 30 minutes out to Nara and you can see stars everywhere. Real nice.

what stars? the stars on the bathroom in the next appartment block?

All well and good, but why the focus on tests and approved texts? So much bureaucracy! Sounds like another government agency trying to justify its existence.

In the UK people who are interested in astronomy set up associations, study the subject themselves, and hold events. No need for officialdom.

Mate, I'm nearly through my "star sommelier" course now.

I'm gonna use it to spot stars in the eyes of the hot Japanese women I see every day, ha ha :-)

Good luck SS3 - just make sure you don't take too much wine - you want to be able to focus on the stars in those Japanese ladies' eyes ;)

Shimpei Shibata - "I’d like to train some students to become ‘science communicators’"
