All very nice advice for cubes. Most offices I see do not have cubes. They are: "wallpaper from the ‘70s, falling-apart furniture and stacks of files — generally, an overall mess," It is like everyone decides to work in the most squalid, colorless, uncomfortable environment possible. The only individual choice anyone is likely to get is the cushion on their pathetic cheap chairs and the lap blanket. Why I am so glad I no longer work in these woeful offices.

While I was still working in Yokohama, I have turned my "workstation" into my own personal space, without the cubicle partitions.
- Computer and monitor re-arranged the way I like it
- Trackball instead of a mouse
- Anime figures and miniature stuffed toys on top of the computer
- PC wallpaper ... downloaded of course, but from deviantart
- Coffee and cocoa powder in my desk drawers, along with my mug and teaspoon
- A small piece of whiteboard stuck to the side of the PC for temporary notes

I've personalized my desk by keeping a bottle of Chivas Regal under it.
