Does it really work, or is it a gimmick? I mean, why not start off with training owners to be able to discern their pet's state of mind? You know, dog with tail wagging is happy; cat with tail wagging is angry. And then work up from there. Somehow having a "device" to monitor pets' feelings seems to defeat the object of having one. What next, a device on the neck for the spouse or lover?

What do you suggest? Make training a requirement before purchasing or acquiring a pet? Nice idea to be sure, but unfortunately the reality is different. Like with many things in Japan many people get a dog or cat without considering the decade or more responsibility that comes with them.

Pets for many are a fad, and when the cuteness wears off and the animal becomes a burden people no longer care about their pets emotions nor are they willing to spend the money to find out either.

Hence the literally thousands upon thousands of dogs and cats that get euthanized yearly here in Japan, over 5,000 a year here in Okinawa alone!

Devices like these are geared toward the "fad" of owning a pet, or the die hard owners who just want the next best thing and want to be in line with what their neighbors have.

A good owner won't need to pay any money to buy a device to tell them something they already know. Pay enough attention to your pet and get to know them and they you and you WILL know their "emotions".

It's a gimmick, in my opinion.

Well, when we grew up with animals around we learned from a young age to not get the cat overly agitated or it would claw or bite us. When it purred it was content. You know, that sort of thing. Ok, we cannot train the owners - much though it would be a good idea - but there are lots of programs on TV in the US, Australia, the UK, and no doubt other countries too that go into great detail about living with pets. Can we see such programs on free-to-air TV in Japan? I have never seen any.

My dog has a built in app... it's called a tail, that wags when she's over the moon.
