Foreigner moves to Japan and starts a blog about it. It's a tale as old as time... until you throw comics into the mix. When Grace Buchele Mineta moved to Tokyo with her husband, Ryosuke, she started drawing comics about their daily life, just for fun.
One year (and 3 million page views) later, Mineta is making a full-time living from her blog “Texan in Tokyo.” She also contributes blogs to GaijinPot.
Her first comic book, “My Japanese Husband Thinks I’m Crazy: The comic book,” was published in November of 2014. Mineta raised over $14,000 on the crowdfunding website, Kickstarter, to self-publish the book. After the success of the first book, she decided to write another.
"My Japanese Husband (still) Thinks I'm Crazy" (published on Feb 16 and already has 52 glowing reviews on Amazon) is the semi-autobiographical story of Grace, a native Texan, and her hilarious husband Ryosuke. Their life is told through a series of comics depicting the joys (and hardships) of choosing to settle down in a culture that isn't your own. After all, just because something is "different" doesn't mean it's wrong.
Both "My Japanese Husband Thinks I'm Crazy" and "My Japanese Husband (still) Thinks I'm Crazy" are free to download via Amazon from Feb 18 to 21 (as a promotion). After that, it will cost $4.99 for an eBook.

I think these appeal to people who don't actually live in Japan. But since it is free I will give it a read before I make any judgements. I think a comic titled "My mother-in-law is Japanese" would be way more interesting if my mother-in-law is anything to go by!

Glad she is doing something she loves and is doing well at it, but it seems there are a lot of these sorts of "cultural differences in relationships" media out lately...

Her articles have been included in the last several issues of Metropolis magazine, I've enjoyed most of them. The latest one is about American idioms - when pigs fly! Hee hee!
