this goes to show the mentality of most the population, most the world over...that they buy it, sell it, make it?

Another story that simply sidesteps the real issue. The fact that the vast majority of food scandals in Japan are domestic !

    Yamamoto stated...

‘‘It is wrong to avoid Chinese products only because they are produced in China,’’

He is right, the products that should be avoided are Japanese ! The most recent incident of mixing chinese with japanese vegetables and labeling them japanese only remains at the heart of the problem... dishonest Japanese businessmen ! As for advanced frozen food techniques, ho-hum. The Americans perfected this years ago. It is now time for Japan to do the right thing and open its markets, without media or government interference, and allow the Japanese consumers the opportunity to choose safe deliscious American produce... or risky, mislabeled, mixed vegetables of unknown nature... like we are getting now !

    "frozen vegetables"

You would think supermarkets would have frozen brussels sprouts, but nah...

  • cleo at 11:32 AM JST - 13th November

You'd think, wouldn't you Sarge? I don't think Japanese people particularly like sprouts on the whole. Last year my local Nokyo had loverly big ones going dirt cheap, and I think I was the only person buying them. My fridge was full of home-frozen sprouts for weeks, and cleo was one happy camper!

I am a big fan of the SteamFresh variety = you throw the frozen veggies in the microwave and they steam in the bag. =Since you steam them they are not soggy.

Frozen veggies are often much cheaper than fresh or canned also.

Just got back from shopping with my wife and daughter. We go to three different stores for different items. In each store, ALL the frozen foods were from China. One of these stores is a local coop. So it seems to me there is not enough domestic veggies out there to put into the frozen food aisles.
