But then there are medical schools that will admit students not based on grades, but how much money the parents give to the school.

    Which ones would those be?

  • noborito at 11:58 AM JST - 17th March

toadold, you want me to feel sorry for people who have to work really really hard for 3 or 4 years, then cash-in for the rest of their lives? sorry.

  • Noliving at 03:18 PM JST - 17th March

noborito, the medical schools in the US have nothing to do with how much medical industry products and services cost in the US, that is like saying the computer science programs at US colleges are responsible for the cost of commercial software in the US, they clearly are not.

  • Noliving at 03:25 PM JST - 17th March

They are not saying they are going to change their healthcare model to the US health care industry model, they are just going to look at the model the US uses at medical schools to train their doctors, nurses and other medical staff. What they are talking about is the quality of the staff, they feel the medical schools in US produce higher quality doctors and nurses, etc vs the japanese medical schools.

About time.I went to med school in the US worked there for a few years and after coming back I was shocked at the quality of doctors here. Most were the equivalent of a nurse in the US and MORE than a few seem to have gotten through just on donation of daddy's money.

I totally disagree. Maybe if you studied Japanese and got good at it, you would find that there are a lot of fine Doctors here and very caring. I also love the health insurance. Sure beats that expensive garbage in the states.

  • Noliving at 04:41 PM JST - 17th March

If you can afford that expensive garbage in the states then you would know that the care that is given is not garbage but generally first rate yelnats, the problem is being able to afford it in the first place.

Yelnats....I AM Japanese....and health insurance here can be a joke...so you pay health insurance for 30 years and hospitals won't/can't accept you...then you die in the ambulance, good health insurance insn't it.

US generally has the best health care in the world. Turns out doctors who in General are the best in the world as well. Thats not to say other countries and places including Japan don't have fine doctors, however the number of them is lacking. And as others have said, many of the Doctors, despite having, I would hope, the best of intentions, are frequently only as well trained as a good nurse. Regrettably when it comes to health care, the standard seems to be true, you get what you pay for. In the US health care is expensive, but the best money can buy. Elsewhere with insurance, and managed care its cheaper, but generally lower quality.

All that aside, I think this is a very good idea, to bring US style training and implement it in Japan.

  • ClassWarUK at 03:02 AM JST - 18th March

Molenir: Perhaps a few check on medical stats and not just blind patriotism will shhow you that the US health care system and it's survival rates, mistakes, etc are not no1 in the world.

Sorry to burst your idealistic bubble.

  • buddha4brains at 06:34 AM JST - 18th March

US generally has the best health care in the world.

Except for the +50 million Americans without any health insurance or the millions of others who have (and soon will) become bankrupt. Quality of care also includes how many people are include/excluded.

What happens when Japan starts talking about changing Japanese MEDICAL SCHOOL system to an American style? Americans with R's next to their names think the Japanese are talking about the greatness of the American medical system.

    Example;

Molenir at 02:59 AM JST - 18th March US generally has the best health care in the world.

Oh man when I read that I almost fell off my chair laughing.

Just to help you out and others with facts about where the WHO rates the American health care system. Here are the top 10 nations with the best medical systems.

    1. 1 France {Sarge that one must hurt}
    2. 2 Italy
    3. 3 San Marino
    4. 4 Andorra
    5. 5 Malta
    6. 6 Singapore
    7. 7 Spain
    8. 8 Oman
    9. 9 Austria
    10. 10 Japan

Hmmm now where is the United States? Oh wait there it is number 37....

Lucky number 37 Now doesn't make all us American's proud? Wait a minute, NUMBER 37! WHAT?????? This can not be! France is number ONE! Never, lies all lies! We are not number 37, we are the United States of America, we have the best of the best of the best medical system!

Yep number 37 it must be true! If we are that bad I wonder who else is in front of us.

    1. 18 United Kingdom

    2. 22 Colombia

    3. 25 Germany

    4. 26 Saudi Arabia (wonder when the Bush family will be moving there?)

    5. 30 Canada (Now this must be a lie, because Republican's have told me that the Canadian system is evil!)

    32 Australia

    33 Chile

    35 Dominica

    36 Costa Rica

Man we suck! Coming in number 37 is not a good place to be in if you are suppose to be the richest nation in the world!

But of course I am not a Republican. I think people should be treated for their illness and not treated for their insurance.

So what does that show us? We need to overhaul our system before we drop below the Chinese (number 144).

Rich nations have healthy people, Japan has a top ten system. The United States does not. That is SAD!

Cost after getting out of aq US med school? I know one guy who has finished his specialty training. Oh the money is going to be good but he isn't going to keep a whole lot of it. Liability Insurance, School loan payouts, taxes, and etc. He'll be working the standard 12 hour shift required for his specialty. It will be a vacation for him since he'll get a full two days off per week.

to get some idea about US care system please watch movie "SICO" which is to be on J-TV soon

  • Himajin at 04:20 PM JST - 18th March

US generally has the best health care in the world.

If you have a good health plan with a top-tier HMO. I couldn't begin to tell you the travesty that has been my parent's health care over the past 30 years. Misdiagnoses, late diagnosis, screwed up meds, it's been infuriating. And this in the Boston area, supposedly world-renowned for it's hospitals.
