The Corpse Hotel, sounds like a Stephen King novel

The usual complaint is noise. I assume in this case those staying in the hotel don't make much noise, so what's the problem?

Creepy. I would not want one of these in my neighbourhood. If there is no space in crematoriums, please use a morgue.

Also

Unlike other such morgues-in-disguise, which try to blend in by looking like hotels, Sousou doesn’t refrigerate corpses, relying on air conditioned rooms instead

What about summer when the heat is unbearable?

Or when the power goes out?

I wouldn't mind if the rooms above me and to the sides were occupied by corpses. At least I wouldn't be able to hear them stomping around. This sounds like another story of nimbyism though.

People shouldn't be upset by death. It's one of the most natural things to happen. Some people are arrogant, even with other people's grief.

Well, the fact is we're all going to have to check in at one of these "hotels" sooner or later, and we won't be checking out.

My thought are along the lines of its air conditioned but not refrigerated, refrigerated I would have thought that were talking of only 6 degrees, but air coned is way higher that that, so what happens to these bodies in the hight of summer in Japan? is this safe? if bodies start to decompose, jeees, poor neighbours! On the upside I suppose the hotel will be quite, no wild parties! I don't know if that I would want a morgue hotel next to me, would you want one next to you??

This is proof that some Japanese will NEVER be happy & likely don't want to be!!

I have a wood stove, maybe I should start up a side business, but everyone please be discrete when dropping off the corpses, don't want the neighbours complaining haha!!!

Next thing we will be hearing about is people complaining we are taking in too much oxygen or something ....

People worrying too much, and yes I wouldn't mind having one next to where I live. Chill out.

People are dying to get in there as it's the dead center of town!

The least desirable land in Japan is any land abutting a cemetery...when these people bought their house they didn't count on having corpses next door. It will probably lower the value of their homes.

There is usually a large amount of dry ice packed into coffins here, bricks of it. They are not relying solely on the air conditioning, most likely.

Why is anyone surprised by this, children cant get daycare, old folks cant get decent low cost accommodation/assistance, Japan cant cremate its deceased....................

People here are treated like crap from cradle to grave, well perhaps some delay to the grave..........same crap for all ages here..........

What a MESS!

I wouldnt assume that here as dry ice, in the amounts needed to keep a corpse from decaying too fast needs to be replaced rather often, at least once a day, and that costs money.

How about building 'corpse hotels' underground? That way, people wouldn't have to be aware of the hotels that much like now, and also underground much cooler. I don't know if it's morally right or wrong though.

Yubaru, we had a spate of 7 family funerals about 10 years ago, there was always dry ice, and it had to be replaced. FIL passed when it was 26-27C in the daytime. We put it in the day of his wake and replaced it that night. I can't see any other practical way to do it, air con is not enough.
