I wanted to buy one while I was in Osaka in January, but I forgot to.

Do "Community Chest" cards get replaced by "Welfare"?

  • saborichan at 10:07 AM JST - 12th March

"Invent" isn't the right word. Adapt, maybe. Nothing new was created in this game, just the name changes we have seen in many different versions of Monopoly.

I'd like to see this board.

He should have used different vocabulary. Ask any kid on the street here and he will tell you the Japanese invented the car, radio, TV and iPod.

I do not need anything to remind me of Osaka. I will pass on this.

He was not even born when the game was invented, so what is with that? Chance cards will be ride you bike in traffic cards, and community chest will become cards written by bureaucrats at your local shiyakusho.

I'd be more interested in seeing what they use for the "low rent" properties. Shinimamiya and Tengachaya are two that come to mind. Although, to be honest, the whole city is pretty "low rent" so it's probably had for anyone to tell the difference.

    An excellent point, Shiuu.

Community Chest would most likely become "Slush Funds" Chance would translate to "Collusion" To get out of jail you'd have to pay bribe money to the appropriate local officials and you wouldn't be able to pass go without dropping some cash in the right Yakuza hands.

Tokens would be empty beer cans, pistols, a rusty bike etc.....

What's so great about this? You can buy your own personalised Monopoly set online for about 80 quid. Who wants to think about Osaka when you can recall Maria Feeney in Barnes Halls?

Sigh...they were not long, those days of wine and roses...

"Horai Co, a meat bun company, Zuboraya, a fugu restaurant, Seed, Morisawa and Co and Takara Belmont Corp."

Not the first Osaka based companies that come to mind. Does the game have famous Osaka companies like Panasonic, Sumitomo and Yoshimoto?

  • Pukey2 at 09:58 PM JST - 12th March

The main feature of the Osaka version is that some notable businesses in Osaka, known as a city of merchants, appear in it.

Well, Japanese companies sure know the meaning of 'monopoly'.

    my favorite town, osaka~

Apparently in the Japanese version, every 20 rounds the real estate prices halve and you need a brand you set houses because the old ones fall apart.

  • Richard_the_First at 07:19 PM JST - 14th March

And you have to bribe, sorry, pay 'gift' money to the new owners of the little, red houses.
