it gives them a reading on the quality of their smile on a scale of zero to 120. But even if you have a 120 rating smile, it doesn’t mean it’s the best smile

Then what's the point?

What woman needs is a mirror, man is there to judge her smile !

Just another gadget that will be used to put pressure on people. I feel sorry for the JAL women who have to test drive this app. I wonder what the company is going to do with the one's who dont reach a certain rank or score. I can just hear it now..."Oh your smile doesnt meet our new application driven idiotic standards, your fired!"

Next up, the "smile"-kentei shiken, The smile-test exam, Level 5 to Level 1, each test fee is progressively more expensive with Level 1 being 5,000 a pop. Damn money making chance here!

Many call-centres been using a similar app for years, especially online shopping.

Saw a TV report about it the call centre person sees their own face next to it a percentage, the need to keep it above 90% during a call. Smiling people sound friendlier.

Really? Then the joker must be a super nice guy.

Nothing new. Company S playing with women's self-image issues.

Break free, sisters!

'Sounding friendly' doesn't equate to 'being friendly'.

It would not hurt the world to have more well-meaning smiling going on, but I agree with some14some that a mirror would do just as well.

lets hope they put code in the program that includes the teeth, many would fail the smile test on this alone

So what's better? A lie that draws a smile or the truth that draws a tear.

These apps and software are always so pointless. I like the ones where it "determines your age" because I always end up being 20 years younger and my brother-in-law, who IS 20 years younger ends up being in his 50s. This smile app, to be successful, will depend on your turning your head a certain way, showing teeth, etc.; in other words, being completely unnatural in most cases in order to score more points. You'll be sporting a SEG (you can look that up) half the time if you try to walk around with a 'good smile'.
