Alright ladies, so you’ve spent all day at the office, or out running errands, or cleaning up house and cooking for everyone and taking care of the kids, or maybe even all of the above. Now you want to reward yourself, unwind, and relax in front of the TV or with a good book. Why not let this group of good-looking fellows help you recuperate?

After all, that was the thought behind the creation of the TV show "Men’s Onsen," and what could be more rewarding than watching this handsome bunch, clad in nothing but towels, taking a dip in one of Japan’s many hot springs?

Okay, yeah, actually being there with them would be nice, but we’re trying to stay realistic here.

In July this year, broadcasting station BS Japan brought to the world the greatness that is "Men’s Onsen," a television program aimed at women which follows a group of five "ikemen" (good-looking men) as they travel to various onsen hot springs and inns, complete with many a steamy scene in the bath.

Members of the cast include:

Masahiro Kuranuki Actor; Age 32 Kura-san, as he is called, is part of the theatrical group TRASHMASTERS.

Takeru K-1 fighter; Age 24 The “bad boy” of the group with the charming smile, Takeru is a multi championship-winning pro kickboxer.

Yasuhiro Tanaka Actor; Age 28 Always cheerful and full of humor, Yasu is the mood-maker of the group.

Takahiro Kato Actor; Age 27 Taka is an actor and member of the dance group Dairakudakan, founded by famous Japanese actor and film director Akaji Maro.

Shota Omori Part-time worker; Age 22 The youngest of the group, “Morisho” aspires to be a novelist.

From November 18, you can take all of the boys home with you to enjoy any time you want, with the full first volume of "Men’s Onsen" on DVD for sale at Amazon Japan for 4,536 yen. Or, if you’d rather just enjoy some eye candy for half the price, you can get the photo collection for just 1,512 yen, for order online or at bookstores across Japan.

Enjoy 80 full pages of handsome, muscled, towel-clad men, or join them on their relaxing, fun-filled hot spring adventures as often as you’d like on DVD.

Those guys are hot??

Good to know there are such low standards for men in this country.

@Aly Rustom - "Those guys are hot??"

I don't think that you are the REAL target market for this. BS Japan is an appropriate name!! ;-)

Truth in advertising, they actually do get hot after entering the springs.

Muscled? The photo suggests otherwise.

This series was almost hilariously homoerotic--suggestive camera angles and editing, guys giving each other long looks, asking things like "If you were a girl, which one of us would you pick?" Semi-nude sumo wrestling, for heaven's sake. I don't think women are going to be the only market for the DVD!

@Stephen Knight - "hilariously homoerotic... Semi-nude sumo wrestling"

So I guess I guessed right!! ;-)

"Men" ??!

Creepy. Many more better looking guys down at the surf.

One Chinese cross-dressed man is hotter than them.

Its Japan. What they see as muscled is what we see as anorexic

@Stephen

You piqued my curiosity so I had to see what this was all about (now if my wife checks my browsing history she'll think I have gone to the other side). Anyway, here is the link to a segment from the TV show Men's Onsen (メンズ温泉) : http://www.bs-j.co.jp/mensonsen/movie01.html

Warning. Once viewed, this cannot be unseen.

Aged 22 to 32? Boys, not men.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Male Japanese looks funny blonde bleached hair. Ridiculous is correct word I'm thinking.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

looks like they could all use a few pies, and a few weights...

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Their heads don't seem to match their bodies. Photographer didn't like the result and played around with photoshop?

Hot men? This country has strange tastes.

It's always funny to watch these self-proclaimed "beautiful" girls and guys on TV when there are obviously not.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Well... different countries, different standards of attractiveness. The over-developed brutes and bimbos who tend to adorn calendars in the U.S. would be considered grotesque here.

You know the old saying: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Why does Rocket News waste its time with such misogynist poking of the ladies, as

so you’ve spent all day at the office, or cleaning up house .... Now you want to reward yourself .... Why not let this group of good-looking fellows help you

Haven't they heard of gay liberation?

Standards of beauty discussed in other posts aside, I am sure there are quite a few bears, circuit boys and even twinks who would be more than happy to drop the towel - or the soap - for Masahiro, Takeru or Shota.

The show was produced and directed mostly by women, rare in Japan's TV industry, but clearly there were some gay men on staff to advise on things like camera angles... :-p (You can hear them making comments on the "Digest" video Sensato posted a link to above.)

stephen knight:

I'm not sure about that. Gay men are a lot fussier than straight women. But this does try to address th imbalance on Japanese TV where it's only women who are treated as sex objects. Can you imagine a man showing a bit of flesh on Sunday Japon instead of women showing their boobs which happens every single week, Sunday morning?

over-developed brutes and bimbos, says the guys suffering small man sydrome and the girls without the assets to fill a bikini properly, Id certainly prefer to be over-developed than under, doesnt take much too shoo the competition away from the hot ladies.
