Naruto was one of the best Ninja series this decade. ComicCon tends to be a bit more exciting cause most movie studios like to debut their new movies there. Marvel and DC totally brought Hollywood into the picture.
The Los Angeles Convention Center is a great place for an event of this magnitude.
Cosplay at the Tokyo Game show is cool too. I would imagine the difference between these two events is how accessible the characters are to fans. TGS, they seem to be doing it for some other reason than the love of the genre. Do you know what I mean? I remember trying to connect with someone who was dressed as my favorite Street Fighter character and I was surprised that they had an AGENT there. He didn't even allow anyone to say "Hi". Only pictures while they posed.
For non-Japanese tourists, not being able to shake hands or pose side by side with the character will feel very cold.
Can you imagine?
A: OMG, that guy is dressed as Wolverine from X-Men.
Dude look, his Wolverine is awesome.
or
A: OMG!!. It's Sephiroth from FF, Advent Children. I totally want a picture.
You go up to the guy and get pushed back by some agent. Is this guy a celebrity? Why did you get all dressed up if it wasn't to get connected to other fans and brighten up someone's day?
Speaking of the Tokyo Game show, won't it be toned down this year?
Interested in animation? I suggest Afro-Samurai as your first taste of the genre. Freakin cool stuff.
