Whisky Live Tokyo to be held Feb 18-20
TOKYO —
Organizers of Whisky Live Tokyo 2011, scheduled for Feb 18-20, are expecting a big turnout this year. More than 6,000 visitors are expected to attend the two-day event in Roppongi Midtown.
Visitors can enjoy tasting booths, seminars and live entertainment, while mingling with the many distillers, blenders and whisky writers who come to Japan for the show.
Emphasizing both education and entertainment, Whisky Live Tokyo showcases whiskies from around the world in a way that will appeal to both connoisseur and novice drinker alike.
The first ever Whisky Live event was held in Tokyo in October 2000; this year there will be over 25 live events around the world.
The 2010 event in Japan attracted over 5,500 visitors and this year, the event moves to Tokyo Midtown for the first time.
Meanwhile, Whisky Week, from Feb 14-20, will involve whisky promotions at bars, hotels and retailers all over the country.
A VIP reception on Feb 18 marks the opening of the main Whisky Live event, with the 2011 World Whiskies Awards (WWA) results for Japanese whiskies being presented by 2010 Miss Universe Japan Maiko Itai.
Whisky Live itself then runs over the weekend of Feb 19-20. Visitors can not only enjoy a selection of the best whiskies from all around the world, but a program of 24 Masterclasses, chocolates, cigars, foodstuffs, Scottish & Japanese craft beer and a range of entertainment.

I hate whisky, scotch etc..and the horrible Japanese mizuwari, cheap whisky with water?? Prefer to try dog vomit on natto than even get close to mizuwar. But if you all like your whisky, kanpai! Just do not barf on the Chuo, Yamanote or Seibu lines onegaishimasu, others lines just open the windows and do your thing out the windows on moving trains, the karasu will do the rest!

I have had the honour of visiting the Nikka Distillery in Hokkaido and the opportunity of trying the stunning range of Nikka whisky's. Incidentally Nikka 15 year old single malt was voted no 1 in the world in 2010 . Pretty impressive stuff beating out Scotland at it's own game. Suntory also has some excellent ones. Japanese should value the amazing qualities your Country has to offer. Murray from Auckland New Zealand

OK OK OK we get that elbudamexicano doesn't like the subject of this story. Why overshare your disgust? Many people love a fine whiskey or scotch and they are respectable drinks as they are made with care, craft, and good ingredients. This event sounds like it is going top of the line, not the bottom of the line stuff elbud* is apparently familiar with.

elbud,
sorry many pls dont confuse yr average drunk with people who like a bit of single malt! I usually have 5-6bottles in my cabinet & often enjoy a bit in a nice glass while catching a video or reading, sure you can get ragging drunk on the stuff if you want but people who enjoy scotch rarely fit that description & most also dont do the mizuwari non-sense with the good stuff haha

Ok, sorry, I did not mean to offend the drinkers of fine scotch, just you know, working in Japan, having had a crazy Japanese boss who was an alcoholic and forcing me to drink many, many kinds of alcohol, including I guess whisky, I guess you all get the picture.

Sip and savor, Elbuda. Should take 15-20 min to knock down a dram of single malt. Too much and too complex of flavor to be wasted doing shots, especially with the intense Isle malts. Will be looking forward to this event! Hope to see you there, GW!
