I have worked for the USPS.Unfortunatly their decline is due in a very large support to the Postal Workers union.Salaries are way out of line for work done.Even in the 1960's peopke were getting paid near 12 to 14 dollars to sit at a sorting machine...not sorting but watching a machine do the sorting.....As with so many other failing companies, unions and their totalitarian demands have driven companies out of business.Look at the recent demise of hostess, where the vast majority of workers were willing to settle with Hostess, the union representing themselves drove the company into bankruptesy.

For the USPS it is basically a self-inflicted wound.

Love the postal service in Japan. Can pick up or post things 24/7 at the larger post offices (and convenience stores). Easy to have things redelivered the same day (if I was out when they first tried to deliver the item/s). Where else in the world can you send cash in a special envelope with the amount written on the outside (!) and expect it to arrive safely and complete?

We try to help out the postal service a bit by sending back all our spam mail with the "Postage Will Be Paid by Addressee" envelope but without our return address or any identifiers. The postal service gets paid for it regardless, courtesy of the spammer, hahaha.
