10 hospitalized after tour bus crashes into cars on Meishin Expressway

Ten people were taken to hospital after an empty tour bus crossed over the center line and crashe dinto oncoming cars on the Meishin Expressway in Ichinomiya, Aichi Prefecture, on Sunday.

According to Aichi prefectural police, the accident occurred at around 6 p.m. TV Asahi reported that there were no passengers on the bus being driven by a 60-year-old man driving the bus. He suffered injuries along with nine others in cars that his bus hit one after the other, police said.

Following the accident, traffic on the Meishin Expressway near the Ichinomiya junction was halted for approximately six hours.

Police on Monday were questioning the bus driver for details regarding the moments leading up to the accident. Police suspect he may have fallen asleep at the wheel, TV Asahi reported.

Drove past this about half an hour after it happened. It was mayhem. Looked like a scene out of the Matrix. The dude apparently crashed through the steel barrier and ended up driving into oncoming traffic on the other side! Imagine that coming at ya on a nice Sunday drive.
