One thousand lucky people observed the year's first sunrise from Tokyo Skytree on Tuesday morning.
Tokyo Skytree, which opened last May, drew more than 27,000 applications for the 1,000 available tickets when they went on sale in November.
Tobu Tower Skytree Co, which operates Tokyo Skytree, said the tower's two observation towers -- 350 meters and 450 meters up -- opened from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. The tickets cost 5,000 yen and winners were chosen by lottery.
The lucky 1,000 got a spectacular view after the sun peaked through the clouds at 6:50 a.m.

Lucky? I'd say they were ripped off. 5,000 yen...

@Serrano: instead, they should have bought lucky bags "fukubukuro?" :)

Actually, I suspect Fuji-san peaked through the clouds...

Glad the weather was nice and they could see a nice sunrise, though you won't catch me paying that much and more just because the person beside me is doing the same thing.
