I'm sure alot of people wouldn't like to spend a year in school before they work fully.
darksamurai at 11:52 AM JST - 10th October
They actualy not training as tarinee..but working as cheap labour.
mareo2 at 12:10 PM JST - 10th October
Trainee is just another legal loophole for get cheap workers for small and mid size factories. If we need an example, Is just like Entertainer for get cheap hostess for snacks.

2% of people went home. That sounds pretty reasonable when you consider they spent 3 years in a foreign country.

WoW!!! I guess they left because the salary was so good and paying the national health insurance was so cheap.
memyselfI at 12:44 PM JST - 10th October
I much did they get paid ? 200 yen hourly ? Maybe 1000 yen hourly ? Or maybe it was 200 yen weekly and 1000 yen monthly ? jt needs to find information on how much they made ? And what the salary would be like if they had stayed ? That would make an more interesting article.

Foreign trainees = institutionalized slave labor and indentured servitude.
littleboy at 12:56 PM JST - 10th October
It does in every country. Still probably beats 90% of jobs in a developing country with conditions and pay. America is one of the worst countries on the planet for foreign trainees. And Exploitation of Mexicans. How about a little introspection?

There is need to proper investigate this case. Many of these workers are victim of dispatch companies. In many develop countries local agent also taking 50% commission from these workers. You can find such foreigner workers in Chinese, Indian and Thai restaurants in all over Japan. These foreign workers give back around 50% commission from their salary to local agent in their country or to dispatch company or to restaurant owner. No body can find any proof or record of such money transactions. Workers fear to say anything. Such kind of transaction is always in CASH only. Please help these workers.

Littleboy is right. The percentage is actually pretty low. This is just an alarmist headline to get people to post and visit the site more...and I guess it worked.

"Run foreign trainee, run!" That's what they propably thought when they saw their first salary...
usaexpat at 11:33 PM JST - 10th October
Check the soaplands, yak brothels etc. They probably went for the best money and or didn't want to return at the end of their contract.

It's hard to find good help. You give people an opportunity to receive high level training in the world's most technologically advanced society and this is the gratitude they have? I say cut the program off, stop wasting money on ingrates who come here to end up trying to one-up the system and become criminals!
NuckinFutz at 01:51 PM JST - 11th October
I don't think "ran away" is the correct term. I think they "escaped" their enslavement!
