This is kinda like those kids who get the idea that it would be smart to look down the barrel of a loaded gun...

Should be "16-year-old boy in grave condition after being hit between eyes by arrow"

lol didnt know the bow was loaded great one he accidently shot him right lol he wanted that kid dead its a bow you pull it back with your hand and hold it with your arm if your grip was slipping or you had any doubts you could continue to hold the bow string you wouldnt been aiming it at anyone its not like a gun where the slightest touch of a trigger can set it off

That's pretty messed up. Indoors, for short-range practice, they use untipped wooden arrows, and shoot at a staw bale up on a rack. This was a fairly expensive arrow for competition, being carbon fiber and all. The steel cheapos are what most kids would be using, so this kid's got some cash in the family, too. Rich and poor judgement. I'm sure there's no connection...

There has got to be more to this story...pulled it out himself? Come on now.

Last nite, I was at the ER at Hiroo Hospital for my daughter. I came across the aunt of this young man who was beyong distraught. I helped translate a bit as she and her sister are chinese.
Her sister is the mother of this young man. No-the arrow was stil in at the time and it was going to be the doctors who were going to remove it. The arrow was imbedded and the young man, 16 years old, was unconcious and in critical condition.
It is not nice to have anyone joke about this matter. The family is beyond distraught as your parents would be if anything would happen to you or your child. While translating, I could not help but cry and feel their pain as I was trying to help these women.
My concern about this matter is how anyone underaged is allowed to use weapons unsupervised. This very accident continues to repeat itself here in Japan. One year ago same accident in Kobe. Perhaps it should be removed as a school sport?

“He then proceeds to pick himself up and nonchalantly remove the offending arrow. I don't think so.”
Kapuna at 02:14 PM JST - 5th November
“Shot between the eyebrows and doesn't pass out? I don't think so.”

thank you for your update, but in answer to timorborder and kapuna, you may not think that pulling the arrow out is possible but believe me from very personal experience it is. At 12 years old I did exactly that, it didn’t hurt (then, but later….) and the memory is still incredible vivid today. You might be amazed at what we humans can endure.
I just hope that this boy is as lucky as I was.

1981, a little boy was killed during an iai (sword-drawing) demonstration because the "master" had forgotten to check that the itsy-bitsy bamboo peg that holds the whole, deadly Japanese sword together wasn't broken.
Swing.......whoops, it's gone through his head!!
These martial arts types (both Japanese and foreign) had better wise up that jidai-geki is just utter bullsh*t and that playing with real weapons gets people killed - it's like a European kid running around with his dad's gun playing cowboys and indians.

This kid forgot the first rule of weapons: don't aim a weapon at something you don't intend to kill. There is no room for "kidding around" when it comes to weapons. Negligence resulting in injury indeed. I hope the poor kid recovers.
usaexpat at 06:33 AM JST - 6th November
Why did he aim the arrow in the first place so that he was accidently able to release it? MagnusGarstin: Kids the world over practice arhcery and I'm pretty sure they were using practice arrows not broadheads. How would you make any sort of archery safe, rubber arrows?

wfllc, kudoes to you for helping out the boy's aunt & mother by serving as temporary translator.
hopefully, he recovers.

Reminds me of that Sopranos episode where Ralphie got whacked...

> The 17-year-old boy was quoted as saying that he accidentally shot the arrow when he aimed it at the 16-year-old boy.

That doesn't sound like an accident.

I mean if you're teaching kids how to handle a deadly weapon then shouldn't SAFETY be the first thing you teach them?!

usaexpat:
It'll never be safe while there're idiots like this kid playing "Robin Hood Roulette" and, indeed, while there are the multitude of bone-headed gaijin "budoka" who profess a *deep spiritual interest *in Asian martial arts whilst secretly just harbouring an pathetic urge to run around and pretend that they're Hattori Hanzo.
