Eighteen people, mostly students, were injured on Thursday after a bus carrying students crashed head-on into a station wagon on a highway in Sakai, Fukui Prefecture.
According to police, the accident occurred at around 8:30 a.m. near the Maruoka Interchange tollbooth. TBS reported that the bus was carrying 16 junior high school students.
The 22-year-old driver of the station wagon, the 52-year-old bus driver and 16 students were taken to hospital to be treated for injuries, police said.
Police said one lane was closed for repairs near the accident site and are questioning both drivers as to the cause of the crash.
