18-year-old man drowns in Hyogo river

HYOGO —

An 18-year-old high school student on Sunday drowned in a river in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. He was found dead at the bottom of the river on Monday morning, according to the fire department.

Masahiro Nakamoto was spotted by a passerby floating in the river around 3:45 p.m. on Sunday, but went under. About 100 fire department officers were mobilized to search for him. According to police, the victim came to the river with his friends, but got separated form them.
