2 die in Aichi building fire

NAGOYA —

Two people died in a building fire in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture, on Monday morning, police said. The fire broke out around 6:20 a.m. at the four-story building owned by restaurant operator Hidehiro Fukuta, 36, killing his wife Sumiki, 35, and their 8-year-old daughter Ruka, police said.

The fourth floor of the building, used as a residence, was burned in the fire, which also injured Hidehiro and Gaia, 3.

    2-3 house fires a day, with 2-4 victims on average = 1,100 people +/- a year who die in domestic fires in Japan. Smoke-detectors? Sprinklers? Nah, sho-ga nai, neh!
