Two men were killed in a traffic accident involving two cars, a truck and a semitrailer on the Hanshin Expressway in Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture on Thursday.

The pile-up occurred at around 9 a.m. when a truck rear-ended two cars stuck behind the semitrailer in a traffic jam, Fuji TV reported. A 36-year-old man who was driving the first car, and another man, 44, driving the second car, died in the collision, police said.

The 61-year-old driver of the truck that hit the two cars suffered light injuries and police said they will question him further after he recovers.

I am sure the truck driver was playing with his phone and doing more than 80kph. Handcuff him while waiting for him to recover.

It just baffles me that trucks and coaches aren't banned from driving in the outside lane on motorways here, they drive way too quickly and right up peoples arses.

A lot of Japanese motorist are too self-centered and lack any consideration to other motorist, imagine a driver on the overtaking lane doing 40kph on 60kph road and sometimes running side by side another car and not giving any room for those in a hurry to overtake. The fun is most cars will just stay behind the slow car as if a spell was cast on them maintaining the slow pace and creating a jam. At times I get the impression that some J-drivers are scared to change lanes or look at their mirrors.

Truck drivers here are the Kings of the Road, except some of them drive terribly. Actually high % of locals drive terribly. Especially on the expressway..

As for the two victims, I can't say it's anything but bad luck. RIP.

Dang! But yes, truck drivers here in Japan (here in Okinawa especially) are maniacs. Very aggressive and totally rude. Take note, truck drivers!

I saw a photo of the accident site, the two cars were completely crushed to 1/2 of their original length, he had to be going extremely fast.
