Man oh man, regardless of the circumstances, it is really sad to see two young boys lose their lives in this manner. Life cut short.... condolences to their families.

More info needed prior to commenting, RIP boys!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the larger vehicle held more responsible, no matter the circumstances?

Here is a link on how they judge http://amami.rindo21.com/ks_bike/ in Japanese though.

"the motorcycle... collided with a car... at an intersection with no traffic lights"

When you ride a motorcycle Rule 1: Ride as if you are invisible to everyone and no one can see you. Rule 2: ALWAYS be prepared that other driver will be a bad driver and do the stupid thing. Rule 3: See rule number 1 and 2

@Robert Dykes,

No disagreement on your rules. First vehicle I ever drove was a motorcycle and those were essentially the rules I learned. Or, as my instructor said, a motorcyclist needs to be the ultimate defensive driver. Because if there is a crash with a car, a motorcyclist will be the loser every time.

Also, while I am in no way making any judgments here because we have very few facts, the idea of tandem riding where the driver is only 16 and the passenger is even younger is just a little troubling. Again, not saying the motorcyclist did anything wrong, just making an observation.

What we can ascertain is that they were unlicensed and uninsured. Furthermore, you can bet that the driver of the car will be made to pay for these two punks' tomfoolery simply because she was driving the larger vehicle.

They were most likely acting like the bosoku bike riders, I guess the grim reaper came to collect.

A 16 year old can only ride a scooter and is not allowed to carry a pillion passenger. That is enough to absolve the driver of the car of any culpability. Teenagers will be teenagers. We used to do some crazy stuff on motorbikes too.

Sure we did - but that was either on private roads or out in the sticks without a soul for miles around.

@A.N. Other,

What we can ascertain is that they were unlicensed and uninsured.

What in the news article allows us to ascertain that? Just curious....

@Disillusioned,

A 16 year old can only ride a scooter and is not allowed to carry a pillion passenger.

Are you sure about that? Just wondering, as it is my understanding that a 16 year old can get a regular motorcycle license. The only limitation is that they need to be 18 yo to get a large bike license.

Now, if they WERE riding a 50cc scooter, then, of course, riding tandem is prohibited.

If a bike licence were a prerequisite for a driving licence wouldn't there be less accidents involving cars and motorbikes?

@Disillusioned That is enough to absolve the driver of the car of any culpability.

If the law was semi based on logic....
