Yeah, it's great, let's tell the media so everyone can stand around and clap and say what great heroes we are.
Wouldn't it have been so much better not to have done the crime in the first place?
I got to agree with Alf though, it certainly is up to us intellectual types to point out the bleeding obvious though!!

Mr Garnett, i agree with ones posting, oh yes, i too am on the rather brainy side i modestly admit, and your post makes perfect.
Even my intellectually challeneged father agrees with and thst shows completely that Mr garnett and myself are correct.

"Donating that pitiful amount of money between the 3 of them is an embarrassment."
Agreed, and before we start patting these criminals on the back for paying their fine (I'm sorry... 'donation', was it?) lets give credit to the mercy of the Italian prosecutors who let them go without a REAL punishment.
This cathedral dates back to the 13th century. Unlike everyone else who visits it, these "lads" showed a despicable lack of respect for their host country, it's history, people and religion.
Donate a thousand euros my arse.

another cut and paste job? Hmm, getting very predictable.
I would have stopped there.

Why did it take till now to donate the money? Easy. Professor Masukawa, who just won a Nobel Prize, teaches at Kyoto Sangyo University.

wow check book diplomacy starts young in Japan. these three should look for jobs with the government.
LFRAgain at 02:45 PM JST - 18th October
The damages to the cathedral and the subsequent repair costs doubfully exceed 1000 Euros, so there's no need to demand more. These young men did the right thing in response to something so pitifully disrespectful and stupid. Leave it at this and move on. The Italians already have.

Unsung good citizens? I call them normal people.

Why donate the money now??..well the article did say that it was earned from jobs over the summer..how many legitimate jobs for students do you know that pay up front?..its just possible perhaps they did earn that money through hard work.
nigelboy at 05:16 PM JST - 18th October
That amounts of 333.33 euro/person/scribble.
If every one of the scribblers donated that amount, they can build a new cathedral and then some.
presto345 at 06:32 PM JST - 18th October
The scribblers are among us. You see evidence of them almost everywhere you travel - and I'm now talking about Japan. On buildings, on monuments, on the pavement, at historic sites, you name it and last but not least on this forum. The college students did the right thing and the cathedral authority accepted that. It took them some time to decide on a way to atone and get the money together. Let's leave it at that, but if you can't - too bad, I hope it'll keep you awake.
