    Another fire, rest in peace.

By my reckoning, that's 2-3 fires a day with at least 2-3 people a day killed therein. That's close on almost 2,000 people a year killed in carelessly caused household fires. That doesn't include industrial fires or other fire-related accidents. Could this be a national trend? Pyromaniacal fires?

I reckon the 45 year old son got wasted and when passed out let his cigarette loose onto the tatami mat, or was out of work and tired of caring about his parents and offed everyone, or it was a tragic accident once again left open to speculation because the details of what started the blaze have been withheld.

    GrouchyGaijin,

    Pyromaniacal fires?

Quite a few seem to always involve older houses.. ones that could be torn down and replaced with a larger modern unit that would be more profitable and easier to sell. This subset way too often involves the deaths of elderly people.

If manufacturers would just put Hello Kitty stickers on them, maybe people in this country would actually buy smoke detectors.
