Three members of a family died in a fire that destroyed their house in Midori, Gunma Prefecture, on Wednesday morning.
According to police, the bodies were those of a 64-year-old man, his 59-year-old wife and their 30-year-old daughter. TBS reported that the couple's 26-year-old son called 119 at around 1 a.m., saying the house was on fire.
It took firefighters about 90 minutes to extinguish the blaze which destroyed the two-story wooden building.
The son who called 119 was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and is in a stable condition, police said.
Firefighters said the fire likely started in the downstairs livingroom.
