3 sustain injuries in reckless driving incident in Osaka

Three people were injured after a man drove his car the wrong way along a one-way street in Osaka's busy Minami shopping district on Monday afternoon. The driver, a woman riding her bicycle and a truck driver were injured, police said.

According to police, the 65-year-old driver of the car turned right into Midosuji street at around 4 p.m. NTV reported that he drove the wrong way, hitting the woman on her bicycle, fracturing her ribs. Witnesses said he then backed up and went in the other direction, hitting a truck, before smashing into the wall of a store.

The truck driver and the car driver also sustained injuries. Police said they plan to question the car driver as soon as he recovers from his injuries.

Meanwhile, NTV reported that his family said he was a diabetic and then he suffered from hypoglycemia which can cause dizziness.

a diabetic and then he suffered from hypoglycemia which can cause dizziness.

All most the same as drunk driving... He should have taken his blood sugar reading before driving.

Reckless? In the sense that he allowed himself to fall into a semi coma. Lack of supervision of his own diabetes meant that he should not have been driving right then.

It could have been much worse being that Midosuji is one of the busiest streets in Osaka especially in the afternoon.

Sounds like he shouldn't have a license. 'Dizziness' certainly won't help one's driving abilities.

Constantly be alert for any form of approaching traffic, regardless of who is in the right, eve no the footpath (sidewalk).

A driver fell asleep at the wheel a couple of weeks ago, suddenly crossed the center lane on a 2-lane road, and ran almost head-on into my car. Her yellow-plate kei did not fare as well as my smallish SUV, but neither car is drivable. Luckily, nobody was seriously injured.

I'm glad that she ran into me, though, because had she gone left instead of right when she fell asleep, she would have run into a group of elementary school kids just getting out of school. It could have been a real tragedy instead of just an expensive annoyance.

She didn't even have the excuse of diabetes, just driving too long when tired, with maybe some sunstroke/dehydration thrown in.

She admitted being too tired to drive, and witnesses said that she had been weaving for some time.

If you're not fit to drive, please don't get behind the wheel.
