370 suffer food poisoning in at 2 Tochigi sports events

Police said Saturday that 370 students, teachers and others suffered food poisoning at two sports events at Nikko and Nasushiobara in Tochigi Prefecture.
According to police, about 200 people were taken to hospital after falling sick during a hockey tournament in Nikko, while 170 got ill at a softball tournament in Nasushiobara, TBS reported.
In all cases, the victims suffered stomach aches and diarrhea, police said, adding that none of the victims had to be hospitalized. Police said the same company supplied boxed lunches to both events.

I never eat supplied box lunches at such events, cheap, bland, low quality ingredients, not to mention the logistics of transporting and keeping them cool in summer. Poor kids, ruined the tournaments they had been practicing hard for.

There were 200 out patient hospitalizations (released within 24 hours). While there were no in-patient (more than 24 hours) hospitalizations, that is quite a few people that required medical attention.

This is my nightmare... I don't agree with the hyper sensitive throwing away food after it's sat on the counter for 10 min but.. to be actually food poisoned because of improper handling.. horrible...
