Just saw the report that thankfully the little tike tested negative to H1N1. End of story.

that's great but will the rest of Japan escape this flu? Or the media hype?

Meanwhile, six municipalities the U.S. Yokota Air Base straddles petitioned the Japanese Defense Ministry’s local office and the U.S. base to implement quarantine procedures similar to those undertaken at Narita and other international airports

It takes 1 to 4 days for the symptoms to appear after initial contact with the virus. Therefore, if the Japanese were not just putting on a big show for the public's benefit, ALL PASSENGERS (including Japanese) should be quaranteened upon arrival in Japan. They might have been infected at the departure airport and not show any symptoms at all when the pass through Narita (or other gateway irport) and still spread the virus in Japan. Unreasonable and unnecessary.

Sorry folks! You'll have to look for your anti-American military fodder somewhere else! Just like the teen in Yokohama the American baby just had the bad luck of getting the regular flu and ending up in media frenzy (the real virus infecting Japan!)

I'm happy both are recovering. End of story.

Mark_McCracken, apparently it's being called Pig AIDS by all the hip kids on the internet.

If the pandemic gets worse, I could see mandatory quarantines being established for all air travellers. Week-long vacations by air would vaporize because of the 4-day quarantine you would face after every flight.

    "a military chartered flight"

That's when you get to fly on a commercial jet, with flight attendants serving you drinks and meals, for like $10.

Its not likely Japanese citizens are finding fault with the actions of US officials at the American air base. It appears a system is in place to identify and prevent the virus from entering Japan and the people involved are acting responsibly.

The usual suspects taking pot shots at the US military over this matter are just cheap opportunists.

A friend of mine flew in to Narita two days ago. He said a guy two rows ahead of him was sweating and registerd "hot" on the tempurature gauge. He was asked if he felt ill, and he said no. They took his word and let him off the plane, no further questions!

I'm glad the little kid is ok. But can we stop making such announcements until a claim is validated?

@Pump24: thanks for the info, like I said, the japanese at Narita are just making carney.

Blah, blah black sheep have you any flu?

can we stop making such announcements until a claim is validated?

No, that wouldnt be fair to the media.

  • KnowBetter at 07:41 AM JST - 4th May

Oh no this piggy flu is runny out of steam except for the steaming piles the media outlets drop in their collective pants everytime they hear of yet another possible outbreak and rush to get the ratings higher by herding the sheep to their channel.

  • shinjukuboy at 09:23 AM JST - 4th May

Whey does the press keep reporting about cases that turn out to be NOT swine flu? That is a sign of hysteria.

  • spudman at 09:35 AM JST - 4th May
