    spudman- the safest for crime (and this may be one yet). As for gross negligence concerning children, Im willing to bet it's one of the worst.

    God no! RIP. My prayers are with the boy's family.

    The woman called police and told them that she had taken her eyes off him briefly, and he had disappeared.

    No doubt this little fella slipped away while she was glued to her keitai surfing the Mixi forums.

    Yes, let's hang the evil bitch for totally ignoring the child. We know what she was doing because we have all the facts at our disposal. We know she was negligent because she was a Japanese woman.

    Or alternatively this is a tragic accident which happens in every country and sadly happened again yesterday in Japan. RIP little one, at least you'll never grow old and bitter like so many of the people on these forums.

    It's very easy to "lose sight" of a child who's running around the park playing. I often pick up two of my grandchildren (6 and 4) at their school, and let them play in the very small koen (park) right next to it afterward. I am always very alert, but there have been times when I would look at one of them for a moment, and the other would "disappear".

    Am I the only person who is a bit sceptical about this....Did he wander off and fall in? Aren't there railings or some kind of protection? is the "friend" being quizzed? Just thinking about cases recently where "missing" kids turned out to be murdered by the person taking care of them...

    @Heda Madness:

    Good post. I don't see how all these other posters can point fingers. We know nothing of the details concerning this tragity. "Children raising children" What the hell is that? I don't see the mother's age anywhere in the item and it's irrelevant anyhow. Gross negligence? It takes one second for a kid to slip on a rock, fall in and get swept away. I thnik losing a child is the most devastating thing that can happen to a parent. How about a little sympathy folks, don't you thnik this freind is blameing herself!

    Is this in a rural area?

  • Deguchisan at 06:00 PM JST - 31st March

    Children die all the time. I think it is awfully vain of you people to get so upset when in actual fact you will soon be following him. You should feel bad for the mother, because her short time on earth will now be very unhappy.

    Deguchisan - vain? what are you talking about? Do you understand what vain means?

  • Patrick Smash at 06:22 PM JST - 31st March

    It is very difficult to keep an eye on a child at all times. It is even harder when you have two or three to keep an eye on. Paddy has the eyes of a hawk, but I once lost sight of my older son for almost a minute in a crowded park. It is very frightening and can honestly happen to anyone, even the most vigilant. Now someone has died and many lives are ruined forever.

  • TokyoGas at 09:25 PM JST - 31st March

    That is very sad.
