    seems that the real issue is how the dispute is going to be resolved...

    It is almost resolved, Japan has kept low profile after smashing fishing vessel, ready to apologize, willing to pay compensation.

    Are you guys serious? There isn't going to be a war with Taiwan even if Ma wants closer ties with China. Japan and Taiwan are allies and major trading partners, this is just a small bump in the road.

    As a Taiwanese I urge you to understand the truth of this incident... it was incurred when an unarmed fishing boat (Taiwan registered) entered controversial area & got hit by a Japanese patrol ship and sank.

    Always, Japan is deemed as the most civilised country in the world. However, thru this incident we found:

    • Japanese media is misleading and too blind to see the truth (we have the video, did you see it?);
    • What the patrol ship was doing was barbarian behavior and against human right.

    There is no "collide" thing in the story and if it was a mutual wrong doing, as a Taiwanese I think we should say sorry for our reaction but this is just not the case.

    "Japanese media is misleading and too blind to see the truth (we have the video, did you see it?); "

    If this video is up on youtube or some other site where we can see it I think we would all be appreciative. Now can I ask you if the Taiwan media has made any mention of the following facts?

    "First, it should be noted that, even though Taiwan's own marine regulations ban recreational fishing vessels from travelling more than 24 nautical miles away from their port or staying out for over more than 48 hours, the site where the "Lienho" encountered the JCG patrol boat was no less than 140 nautical miles from Keelung"

    "Tokyo and Taipei have already agreed to prohibit recreational fishing within 12 nautical miles of Tiaoyutai or in the delineated no-fishing zone in which fishing boats from either Taiwan or Japan are prohibited from engaging in fishing operations, an agreement with the "Lienho" transgressed."

    Ossan,

    Thanks for the comment and Lienho may have done something wrong against Taipei & Tokyo's mutual agreement (personally I think this deserves a punishment).

    Anyways, this still doensn't justify the patrol ship's brutal action earlier and just because Taiwan media didn't mention about Lienho's mistake doesn't mean JPN media was reporting the truth.

    Sidewinder;

    The few articles tht have appeared on various news sources all seem to indicate that the collision between the two vessels was an accident, ie, unintentional. If you do find a link so that we can all see the video of this collision it would be greatly appreciated.

    China Peoples Republic, one of the greatest in the nowaday's world, should take a break sometime. BTW the fuel cells' car is an outstanding invention. Japan go that way.

    No way does it mean that there is a need for starting or pretending to start a war between Japan and Taiwan ,though no mattter how hard they ever tried and negociated to resolve such a dispute between China and Japan since early 80's last century.Japan would not involve in any negociating efforts with Taiwan just in case Taiwan is not Independent Country!

    Read the headlines and editorials tomorrow - Japan's 'anger' at intrusion. What about Taiwan's 'anger' at the Japanese de-facto Navy crashing into a Taiwanese vessel and barely rating it as 'brief' in the media, whereas countless inches were devoted to the Atago incident, when that destroyer hit a Japanese fishing boat in Tokyo bay. Where is the consistency? Do the Japanese media think that by not writing about a potentially (and proven to be so given Taiwan's response) international incident that it will go away... No MSDF heads will roll for this one.....

    was this a China (Taiwan )fishing boat??? What a mess huh? And how can all get so screwed up and all trying to take advantage of the situation, such as the report out of China trying to percieve this as some sort of action against Taiwan and them as well..Trying to link China and Taiwan as one...... Now that is pethetic!!!!!

  • yosun at 11:05 PM JST - 18th June

    Hi~ guys: no matter how u look down on Taiwan, pls don't forget 2 things: 1. Republic of China(Taiwan) is the country who accepted Japan's formal surrender after WW2 and kindly asked for nothing for compensation. 2. Taiwanese is not that stupid to ask for war, because they know the war will finally become war between US and China... war?? Ha! Ha!..

  • Kwaabish at 01:28 PM JST - 19th June

    At least they didn't empty an entire banana clip from an AK-47...

    Getting close to the fishing vessel and accidentally hitting it was probably an accident. If it wanted to deliberatly sink it, there are many more efficient (and less risky) ways to do it.

  • Chinese_American_Guy at 02:55 PM JST - 19th June

    Wrong! No one entered Japanese waters. The only trespasser was Japan, period!

  • TonyUS at 12:33 PM JST - 20th June

    well chinese american guy.. that seems to be disputed. :)

    So.. one fishing boat gets owned by a Japanese ship.. and 10 more show up to play bumper-boats? Hilarious.. on a number of levels.
