Once again, I can't believe how lax some parents are. The mother waits four hours before reporting her daughter missing. You do not let a six-year-old girl go outside by herself to play, no matter how busy you are. And you certainly don't wait four hours to wonder where she is.
Weird. I've said it so many times and I'll say it again. For some parents in Japan, children are little more than pets.

well... when i was a child, growing up in a 100 inhabitants village lost between fields and forest, when my mother tired after her work as a doctor, and taking care of her 4 children, was having a nap, i was going to play out... and not only in the garden... out in the forest, the fields... that was so much fun ! we had a big garden, surrounded with walls and a big gate, and i was climbing over it to play out... my mother was in no way to blame... i got in trouble doing it ! that story and details are too short to blame the mother and the whole japanese society !

It used to be OK to let a 6-year old play outside in the daytime. It certainly was when I grew up in Europe. In Japan, it still basically is, by and large. Alas, times are changing here too.

The mother is a prime suspect. I remember the woman who killed the neighblor and then her own son.

in Japan this is standard SOP for parents to let kids roam loose, or ride trains for hours by themselves carrying 20 pounds of books. Or walk the street to school during rush hour with no supervision.
it's like those people that train their dog to walk with them with no leash. every once in a while something regretful happens.

One can only hope she has not met with a tragedy.

I do not even let my 7 y/o girl go to the public toilets by herself. I stand guard until she is done. Not to mention playing outside alone.

No kidding. Hopefully, this poor little girl is OK, but I suspect she is not.
