    I'm sorry, but the corporate ideology of the system is at blame here, and nothing else. Sure, the kid was a minute or so behind, but being reamed out and told to speed up to make up for the lateness is what caused the accident, not the kid being foolhardy of his own accord. He lost his life of 23 years also in the accident, and does not in any way deserve to be a scapegoat for company policy. JR has to pay, and they have to pay big.

    It apparently had punitive education programs for drivers who committed operational mistakes such as overrunning a station platform.

    This is a hallmark of the culture. Shame culture.

    I remember hearing a friend of mine saying becuase she was five minutes late to work she had to hand write the companies policy on tardiness and then write a letter of apology to the company.

    How sad.
